(IRRK) -- The future of Rubi-Ka Universal Robots, also known as RUR, the robotics company behind the Milly Maid robot and the Leetbot, is once again in jeopardy after it had to recall its latest robot model from the shops following safety concerns.
The Pfft!, which stands for Physical Fitness Family Trainer, is a robot designed look after the exercising and sports coaching needs of its owners. Ever since the range of robots was launched last summer however, there have been reports of Pfft! related accidents. These reports mention Pfft! robots pushing their owners too hard resulting in muscle strain, dehydration, and even heart attacks.
The traditional holiday season overindulgence has seen a sudden, alarming surge of Pfft! related accidents, with the robots undoubtedly overreacting to the increased calorie intake of their owners. These accidents in turn have forced RUR to withdraw the robots from sale and pay punitive damages to its customers.
Financial observers were already nervous about RUR performance back in September. The company had acquired land in the Coast of Peace for a value of ninety-two million credits, a move many judged as rash for a company already deeply in debt. The recall of the Pfft! may have proved to be final straw to investors' confidence and has sent RUR share price in a tailspin, wiping out in one fell blow all the gain made since the company's flotation in May.
