One of the main reasons people avoid PVP, RES EFFECTS

If res effects were reduced to 1-2 min or eliminated all together people would PVP more. The other reason is titles, but res effects is a major one.

Res effects are boring anyway. They slow the game pace down and waste a lot of time. losing exp is enough reason not to want to die.

I'd have to agree. Rez effects were one of those ideas that looked good at first, but ultimately didn't turn out well.

There's nothing to do when you're at the rez terminal. I usually leave my comp and load some dishes in the dishwasher or catch a little TV. I haven't played too many games that actually make you want to leave your computer.

AO already has alot of hidden downtime. Add up all the time you spend lfg, rezzing, lfg, shopping, lfg, and begging for buffs... it's quite a bit. In the remaining time, I'd rather hunt than PvP.

Unless I've got alot of laundry to do, then I might PvP a bit.

Disagree 100%. No Pain, No Gain.

Death has to have some consequences. As it stands now, it's pretty mild. If you save first, which is always a good idea before entering a PvP area, you don't even lose exp.

If they do away with the res effect how would anyone ever win a large-scale battle? You'd kill someone and an engineer would warp them right back into battle or they’d jump in a Yalm and be there almost as quick.

The reason people don't PvP is that it is unbalanced, there are no goals like taking over a base, there is an amnesty, and no rewards for winning (like Ream points in DAoC).

On a side note, this amnesty has to end. We all know it will eventually, so there is no suspense. It's like watching a movie that you already know the ending. Like I said before, it is preventing role-players like myself from PvPing even though we want to.

    What pain?

There is no pain in rez effects. They are just boring. I hate rez effects more than i hate losing exp. It's fun PLAYING the game. rez effects are a forced downtime. I'd rather have no rez effects and just lose 10% of saved exp or something.

Been playing a lot of x-box latley, Halo is an AMAZING game. The way it handles death is there is usually an autosave right before a huge battle. When you die you start right where you left off ready to go. It's a very different type of game, but its SO FUN, because you PLAY it the whole time you are "PLAYING". AO, you play it maybe 50% of they time you are "PLAYING".

A lot of things could be streamlined in this game. Mission terminals giving class specific rewards, shopping terminals stocking all QLs of items, maybe cluster ql just being eliminated and let them take the ql of the plant, a TON of just annoying bugs and crashes that effect lots of XP and 2k users. Rez effects are a small part of a much larger battle I have with AO against boredom and frustration. There is a difference between a challenge and an annoyance.

Again I agree. Other faster paced PvP games don't have death penalties, but people still win matches like capture the flag. This is despite the fact that there are fierce battles in relatively small areas.

Of course, we don't want AO to be a twitch game like 3d shooters. However, PvP is dead because alot of people don't want to sit at rez terminals, only to die again and sit at a rez terminal some more.

As an Omni I've had alot of fun in 2HO. Unfortunately, once the clanners are vanquished... they don't come back. It's as simple as that, they don't come back. Can you blame them? Who wants to enter a battle where the odds are against you, only to zoom right back to the reclaim from a cheap shot?

Even if they dropped rez time to 1 minute, it would help alot.

I don't understand the whole point of res effect anyways. Losing XP is bad enough. But then I get 5 minutes. So I just hit 'x', tab to my Internet Explorer and start surfing porn sites for 5 minutes. Five minutes of porn time. That's all that means to me.

Res effects are a good thing

The point about how to win a battle is the right one, I think

We've all played Quake/Unreal Tournament/Etc. right? You know how the battles never end? How noone can really establish dominance because you just pop back in? That's what AO would turn into without res effects. They keep you out of the battle for a bit, which is crucial if somone is trying to establish a foothold somewhere.

Instant res with no penalties is a straight FPS thing... if that's what you're after hang tight for Planetside. AO is more than that though, I think, and I think an already sketchy PvP system would be even more crippled by people instantly returning to the battle.

That said, a higher level Doctor/MP nano that would shorten (but not eliminate) res effects would be very cool.

That's right. AO is a game where you can actually win. Now can anyone tell me how to win?

Even without rez effects there would still be a substantial delay in returning to the battlefield. First, you respawn where you saved. Second, you will need to heal. Third, you will need to buff. Then you will need to run to the whompa, or grid term or zone or whatever you are going to do to get back to the battle. It's not like you could save in omni trade if you are clan for a raid on HQ, you need to save in tir, grid to HQ or trade then zone to HQ if you grided from trade. There will be ample delay from the time do respawn to the time you get back without the additional 5 min of SHEAR BOREDOM.

Oh please, don't give me this BS. If what you were saying is true, then I guess counterstrikes PvP must suck then??? When you die, you're *done* till the next round. Do you think everyone quits PvPing in counterstrike because they died? Or do they stick around for the next round?

    LOL

I've always played FA for HL because I hate CS's respawn rules. I have also played a ton of CTF and TF in UT, Q3, q2, TF for q1. I like faster respawns.

Anyway apples and oranges, even in CS rounds only last 2-4 min and usually are very fast. If you add up the time to fully recover, rebuff, heal up and run back to the combat area you are looking at about 10 minutes, and you can't even observe what's going on like you can in CS. CS is a pure PVP game, so people don't quit "PVPing" in that game because of dying, they quit the game or they wait. hehe I guess AO's FRANTIC game pace is just a little too much excitement for you as is.

What do you have against fighting boredom? LOL I bet u r a slacker in RL ;]
