Old face, new story

[Eternalforce]

The shuttle sets down gently onto the landing pad at the Omni-1 spaceport. The door cracks open with a woosh as pressurized air is released, and the passengers crowd at the door, blinking at the sudden exposure to the Rubi-Ka light. Chattering excitedly to each other, the passengers stream out of the shuttle and down the landing ramp to the tarmac.

Finally the last passenger steps to the doorway. He takes in a deep breath of the spaceport air, relishing the taste and smell of the oil, coolant, soot, and chemical waste that are a staple of spaceports the galaxy over. His ears are assaulted by the sounds of machinery loading and unloading, shuttles taking off and landing, and voices droning over loudspeakers. And his eyes...his eyes drink in the sight of the spaceport, the hustle and bustle of human existence.

The man slowly clanks down the metal ramp in his military-issue boots. As he steps onto the tarmac, he can't help but feel a thrill of excitement. He had finally returned home...

Zack "Eternalforce" Craddock was back on Rubi-Ka.

Now I am REALLY in for it....

"Xserter", being the restless, eccentric, adventure loving, new found ways of life person that he is decided to swing by Rompas and see what senseless excitement that the empty place was getting into today, but on his way, he'd seen a face far too familar.... One he'd never thought he'd see again. It was that of Zack "Eternalforce" Craddock, former leader of a few well respected organizations in part of the Omni-Tek. As he walked along the streets, "Xserter" remembered his new way of life, the one of his opposite before... He no longer killed, stole, or hurt. His new way of life was to liven, give, and help all. He figured it was time to catch up on lost time.

The light in the Rompa Bar was dim, and the pervailing odor was that of smoke intermingled with alcohol. Like usual, the bar was almost entirely empty, making it an ideal spot to lose oneself in thought.

A dismantled assault rifle was scattered across the table in front of Zack Craddock, as he carefully and quietly cleaned out the delicate firing mechanisms. Cleaning his weapon was a habit Zack had when he was agitated, as he found the task relaxing.

As he picked carefully at a piece of sand stuck in the firing chamber, he reflected on the latest series of problems to hit him. It had all started that fateful day three months ago...

He had been recalled suddenly to Omni-Prime to face a Performance Review Board. The board found that Zack had displayed severe incompetence in the leadership of his last two commands, and the issue was taken before a military tribunal. The tribunal found him guilty, but thanks to some quick talking by his lawyer, he was able to secure an Honorable Discharge. He then hopped the first ship to Rubi-Ka, to home.

Zack put the firing chamber down and picked up the trigger assembly, which he proceeded to oil. He had been so anxious to get back to Rubi-Ka, to see his friends again, and above all to see his wife, who he had left behind with not even a note explaining his absence. And so it should not have come as a surprise to him when she told him that she had found another man. That night, Zack had found a bottle of Hit The Floor Jack, and crawled into a dark corner to drink his problems away. And now, a few days later, for the first time in his life, Zack Craddock was completely at a loss. His wife had left him, he had no job...things were beginning to look grim.

Zack carefully put the assault rifle back together, admiring the sleek edges that contained unmatched deadliness. He had decided to become a solider of fortune, to sell his skills as a soldier to the highest bidder.

And so Zack Craddock embarked on the latest stage of his life journey.
