Thread: Level requirements on new nano programs

  1. #21
The first time I see a MP nano in the patch notes with a level req on it. I cancel my account. THAT MINUTE.

In addition (and I'm going to be rude here, as I'm pretty torked) :

WHAT IS THE GOD DAMN POINT OF THE NANOMAGE BREED EXISTING IN THIS GAME?

Lets see... I can be a nanomage, have 1/4th to 1/3 less hitpoints but I'll get to cast all my nanos soo... ohh wait, I'll get to cast them at the EXACT SAME LEVEL AS EVERYONE ELSE!

And what do all the nanomage breed extremely rare and expensive "balancing items" add?
    NanoSkills (either directly or indirectly).
    What is that worth now?
    Nothing.

Please explain to me why I shouldn't immedately reroll as a soltus, and spend points only in evades, attack rating, and base abilities each level; only spending points on nano-skills when I gain access to a new nano due to my LEVEL?

    Theres no reason at all.

    Now, that given:
HOW THE HELL IS THIS NOT A PURELY LEVEL BASED GAME?

Face it FC, you ****ed up. You ****ed up BAD. You thought 14.2 would slow us all down so much. We warned you that it would do no such thing. I warned you that it would do no such thing. But you went ahead with it. What did it give you? Support classes that can now do so much damage that teams are just as fast if not faster than they were, even with the OE rules and the crit nerf.

So what now? Now you're panicking and slapping stupid, STUPID arbirtary requirements on nanolines that BREAK the main strenghts of this game.

I won't even pretend to care anymore.

SWG releases or Citizen Zero releases or you add a level req to ANY MP or Engi nano, I and my girlfriend both cancel our accounts.

    Idiots.

Mostly the levels I have used nanos are WAY over the ql of the crystal, but having new nanos added that have level reqs means the people that have put in the ip to use them early are now denied a reward for their effort... skill based game must mean that there is a weighing of each characters choices, do i become a good nano user or a weopans user or tradeskills.....this is FC's way of saying you must be X all of you....

I accepted my choice to be weaker (well dark blue skills as a fixer had a bit to do with it) nano user and focus on other skills... but poeple (fixers) that used those precious ips are now given a reason not to bother why make a nano fixer when an atrox will be just as good?

Its the very opposite of skill based
    Queen of the Ninjas

Slyyk - MUHAHAHA! Old Fixers never die, they just take a different grid exit.

Cosmik - And don't worry, Jorji. We've got FC love for everyone. It's stockpiled and going out the door.

Jorji's art page (some mature content )

This is one of the many cases where FUNCOM does exactly the opposite of what the playerbase wants, and its not like they didn't know about it either.

reqs on ncu buffs ( receiving end ) .. ok. Reqs on nanos who have fkall to do with it are unacceptable!

I really wonder why I'm posting this. FC obviously doesn't give a damn what we post here, or what we want. But I'm posting it anyway.

FC appears to be attempting to drive everyone away. In case you all haven't noticed, the population has been reduced a great deal in the last month or so. Want a real shocker? Go to the backyards during peak times. You'll see two, maybe three people wandering around. Remember when the BYs were so full that you could hardly find something to kill? Notice how 90% of the groups forming are lvl 120+?

All I can figure is that FC is attempting to drive themselves into bankruptcy so they won't have to pay back the investors. $20M is a lot of money to cough up, and I'm willing to bet FC doesn't have it. So---cut staff, "reorganize" and try to piss off as many customers as possible--then keep your fingers crossed.

We told FC this would happen. For months, we warned them that if they didn't get their **** together, the first game that came out (whether it was good or not) was going to suck the players from this game. NWN is out and guess what? Most of the players are as well.

Well, folks, Earth & Beyond is entering the big public beta soon...wonder how many people will be left then?

/shout lvl 140 Enf looking for anyone! Hello?

God help FC when SWG opens...

    Terrible Idea

I did not like OE, I like this even worse.

My MP was able to cast Infuses at level 87 and would have been able to cast Mochams at 107 if not for 14.4

That was a fun and memorable achievement given that there is almost no content in this game. I worked hard to do it and was proud to achieve some uniqueness in this game. Individuality will be greatly diminished by the level req (and has been by OE IMHO.)

Individual achievement is very much an American theme and what is wrong with that. Some people use implants to cover their weaknesses, I like to use implants to extend my strengths!

Sorry, I feel that Communists have taken over AO.

CONFORM! CONFORM! (The nail that sticks up will be hammered down!)

Honestly, was there really a need for any balancing?! Just because a class or breed was a bit inferior did not stop me from playing it. Even if you think so this is a terrible solution.

I dont care. If there is level reqs. I dont give a damn.

heh , is there something wrong with me? I will continue to play

If you think for one second that "adding level reqs to nanos as a balancing move" will not result in them adding level reqs to ALREADY EXISTING nanolines in the near future, you're more stupid then they are.

  8. #28
Well, Cosmik - you have my condolences Of course, you knew from the boards before that this would be the response. While I agree with you (and have in my posts) this is probably the most unpopular change yet.

As you say - level, skill it's pretty much one and the same when you're tyring to cure an over equipped disease, but those who want to stay that little bit better than anyone else will always rail against any nerfing of OEing. I can see both sides but, you know, these players love to hate you.

I will quit if these go through. I will stick around long enough to do the grid terminal thing and give my stuff to my guild, then I'm gone.

SO when is FC taking out skill points and just putting ability's and level reqs on anything. That will end 99% of over equiping and thats what you want right?

    Level = Your Age

If you are level 195 you can use this nano.

If you are 18 you may vote to decide who will lead your nation.

No I don't care how smart or skilled you are, dammit there is a level (age) restriction.

But there are certain skill req to use the nano. Yeah maybe the most moronic of your class could not meet that requirement at level 195.

Socialism = equality is not raising the ceiling for everyone and see how high people can go, socialism is let's lower everyone down to keep them equal.

I posted this in the 14.4 patch announcment thread shortly after cosmik stated there would be an answer today... this decision was made the night prior to a friend long before i was banned from irc for complaining about this issue which lead to argument and had been on my mind since they gave the ETA of thursday on 14.4 without so much as having adddressed one single solitary complaint about the patch.

Cosmik you have outright ignored everything the community has said about this issue and cannot expect us to simply lay down and accept the way you [funcom] have setup the level req's+bossdrop on the new nanos. You have given zero responce to any of our concerns about any part of 14.4 and given the utter disgrace of a runaround you and Cz have given me in IRC is any indication of how you will handle this I'm rather sure that your explaination is going to amount to a page from verant's "we have a vision if you don't like it leave".

Personally I have decided that if 14.4 goes through as is if there is no announcement of a change within 1 week I will be leaving, never play another Funcom product and do my utmost to convince others thinking about it not to just as I have done with verant and SWG.

This is not an idle threat and it will be carried out on the day of patchday+7days if no ammends have been made by funcom to address our concerns. Until then I will be participating in the protest of blocking the grid.

This has got to be the dumbest thing FC ever did. WTF is the point of playing this game when i can just as well play any other level based mmorpg. The OE crap was bad enough, but now that it didn't work u had to do something even worse. Level req's my a**!!
Can't wait til NWN is released in norway. then it's bye bye AO.

    *really mad at FC*

im saying one thing on this, its been my intention for a long time, but im going public with it so that anyone that cares (people who know me) know.

im quitting for SWG or planetside.

bit of an anti climax i know. you cant have my stuff, its going to fixers who need it. but while i wait, im staying with ao as a chat room

You are mistaken, we are not insane. We had been playing a game with one set of rules, which has now completely changed. It's being taken this way because the players care about the game.

Most of us actually have tried it - we tried it in EQ, we tried it in DAoC, we aren't playing those games now, you will take note.

People act this way because they had been spending their money on something they were playing that was fun. When it stops being fun, well, you can follow that to a logical conclusion.

On some things, most notable the Fixer NCU buffs, yes. Some restriction is necessary to prevent a level 1 player from receiving +195 NCU. Complit buffs were restricted to self only pretty much to prevent overequipping through skill buffs.

But for other things, a level restriction is the absolute worst way to prevent people from using an item. It's too absolute a restriction in games that rarely deserve absolutes. Level restrictions deny rewarding good character development or sacrifice. Level restrictions devalues classes that can enhance skills through buffing, which in turn devalues team gameplay.

If it were desirable to try to ensure most players couldn't use an item before a certain level, there are better ways to discourage attempting their use before that level. For nanoformulas, you could simply take the absolute best possible nanoskills that a nanobreed character of that profession could achieve with implants and set the requirements a little above that. If you don't want people buffing others into using those items, include skills that can't be buffed into the requirements. Add an Adventuring requirement to the Adventurer nanos and now they can't be buffed into those nanos. Add a complit requirement to the Fixer NCU buff nanos and then they can't be buffed into the nanoformulas.

Do anything you can to avoid reminding people they have a stat called 'Level'. The incentive should never be for the players to reach a certain level in a game setup like AO. The incentive should always be for the players to reach attain a certain skill. They'll subconsciously be striving for that level you desire while consciously striving to meet the skill you set.

    Tough call.

    I don't approve 100% and I don't resent 100%. Caught in the middle.

Personally it doesn't hit me hard since I'm pretty close to the top lvl req for MA's new nanos atm, and MA's are the only prof I play. Most of our profession critical nanos were there at launch. If I had a main that depended on the new nanos I'd be very confused, but it is Funcoms game. If this is how they want us to play it, I'll play it that way. I aint leaving for this.

However, I do fear that FC is making more problems for themselves. If a new nano is introduced and the lvl reqs on it are borked, the profession in question will be 100% pissy. (lvl req 195-self only springs to mind) I'm also very concerned about breeds not having enough impact. Why play Nano unless you get something for it?

This puts a LOT of pressure on Shadowlands, I hope FC is aware of that.

I feel for those affected. I really do. I aint leaving because of this thou.

    BOOOOOOO!!!!!!

That is just.. well.. crap. Wow you are adding all these cool nanos and all when only 10 people on the entire serve can use them? Yea.. THATS balance. All wonder new nanos to fix the professions when only a handful can use them. Might as well make a nulitsphere mk3 while your at it. The new level 195 fixer nano is a perfect example... how man 195+ fixers are there? 4?

I am level 187 and the 24th highest soldier out there. If you put such stupid req on the new soldier nanos which are suppose to "fix" the soldier profession i'll simple pack it up and quit. (OMG!?!? did i just say that?) And when people like me start to threaten to quit.. well then you got yourself a serious problem there.

**edit**I appologies for the lack of quality in my post that people have come to expect from me. But this is total poop
