Is poison damage and chemical damage the same thing?

I have noticed some monsters when they hit you it says "hit you for xx points of poison damage" However there is no such damage according to the ac types. I would assume they mean chemical damage since poison is a chemical, is this true?

"Poison" damage and "Chemical" damage are not the same thing. That means while Metaplast would give significant protection against the chemical based attacks of Nighcrawlers, tentacle mutants, and bronto catchers, it offers no protection vs the poison attacks of scorpids and dunethorns. Significant poision protection is mostly found in the high-level armor types, like Steel Ribbed, Omni-Pol (either standard or elite), Organic, Biomech, and Nano Armor.

Unfortunately, true poison weapons are not available to player characters. However, I don't think that was intentional.
