Family - fun - rp or just fun

What about family ?

We all have family names (fully useless now) but no family at all. We can make so people can have children, why not ? It will of course be an option.

I'm not sure the way to do it it in game or out game (web site, official or fan). Out game is the easiest way, you can combine it with a matrimonial agency, an optionnal genealogic tree...

We can already marry, let's have children !
A lot of players will like the idea. I don't remember to have seen that in any game, but this idea has its place in a RP game, as well as the background of your char., the ability to join guilds, ...

What will it really add to AO ? Fun, but also more depth to characters involved, a reason to do more RP, more interaction between players (specially between new players and veterans), a more coherent and logical world... some powerfull and influent families... some high qualified families, all of the same profession (tradition)... new conflict between families... whatever...

Some questions may arise:
How about our age and race ? Thanks to nanobots we all live forever and stay young forever. So it won't be a problem to see a grandfather looking the same age as his grand children.
What about Atrox and different races ? We can say the reproduction is essentially artificial and that everyone (single or couple) can buy (not with credits in game, it's just the idea) a child (or two or even more), of the chosen race.
You may build the system to be random, as in the real world (in game: childs choosen in a database of players who want to have parents; or the reverse: parents are chosen in a database of...) or more flexible, with decision fully up to players.


I'm not able to do such a database out game, but isn't out there someone interested ? And Funcom, on the official web site ? or in game ?

Being an Atrox I'm especially concerned with knowing where I come from, are my parents Mr needle and Mrs Stem Cell or do I have real parents, foster parents, brothers (even twin brothers, sharing the exact same genome as I do)..? All those questions can only be answered by Funcom and yes I'm all for a more developped family aspect in the game. It can only be a source of fun.

I'm sorry, I can't even close my eyes ! it hurts after all this time, especially with my humidity extractor running, which dries my eyes of all their tears (damn, it hurts, hopefully it rains often on RK !).

This would be an interesting idea, though certainly a little hard to put up...

Maybe there could be an option, when creating your char, to choose having parents or not? Or parents of a specific breed, etc...

Pregnancy wouldn't be very fun to play (whee, great, my Fixer can blitz missions even at the 8th month! ), but there could be some sort of special clinics... where you can go, pretend to give your cells, for in vitro fec. or something similar...

For some romantic couple, you may even rent a room in a prestigious hotel (with a beautifull windows view over Rome for example), do a right click on the bed... and bang !... hum hum



The pregnant thing should be avoided, but it can be fun too !

HHmm, there could be an option when you create a character if it's a child or adult, this would of course affect the size of your character and possibly have a different face set to use. Then at a later date you can change to adult and select another face from the existing ones.

Edit: after a week it appears only 4 people, including myself, are interested, so the sentence: "A lot of players will like the idea" has to be changed to "only 4 people are interested, though".

Although I have no clue as to how it would be implemented and programmed into the game, I would very much like the opputunity to have a familiy on Rubi-Ka. My character got married two weeks ago, and in due time she and her husband would like to have children, but it's hard to play out as there is no children option.

And I would love it if it was possible to get your character visibly pregnant. Wouldnt have any problems at all going on missions with swollen ankles and a belly that looks like it is close to exploding

Yes, it is true. Each species will be capable of asexual reproduction to create one or more spawn. Your Character's spawn will be born in one of two forms. Either your spawn will be a new Character coming into the game (yes, that means another player), or you will be reborn as your spawn should your Character die.

Good lord Funcom... if you ever decide to implement children on Rubi-Ka, then please remember to give them 1000-point damage shields, just like all those other NCP's that everyone used to enjoy killing. Or better yet, dissociate children from the combat system entirely.

Sure enough, there would be some idiot out there who would find humor in purging an enemy city of all its children via assualt rifle.
