The 4-note Omni theme sound plays in the background, and the screen shifts to a handsome Opifex man in his mid-thirties. He is smartly dressed in a black Omni-Tek executive's suit. Every detail of his appearance is immaculate, with not a speck of dust on his suit or a strand of hair out of place. He has very serious and reserved demeanor, and speaks with a clear and confident voice:


Good evening, all loyal citizens of Omni-Tek, and friends across Rubi-Ka. My name is Jacob Stroud of Omni-Administrative Services. I am broadcasting this message from the Omni Headquarters building in the heart of Omni-1. I would like to thank Omni-Tek, Omni-InternOps, and Omni-Reform department 28C for the opportunity to speak with you tonight.

For many years we have heard stories, rumors, and gossip regarding the views and ideologies held by the people known collectively as the Clans, our somewhat violent and unpredictable neighbors to the north. Some of these tales have been related by wheedling Clan diplomats and councelors before the ICC and interstellar audience. Other, more reliable information has been provided by accounts from highly professional Omni-Pol and Omni-InternOps employees.

This latter information usually cannot be made available directly to the public, for the safety of the employees who collect this information as well as your own, and is generally relayed to the public thanks to the untiring efforts of the Omni-Tek Press Corp.

Tonight however, we bring to you a very special event. On the evening of March 28, 29478, the Rimor Chamber of the Clans' "Council of Truth" held a rally in order to shore up their political support among their clan allies. This was done with the alleged intention of trying to restore Omni-2 from the damage they inflicted upon it many years ago. Thanks to the immense courage of several fine members of Omni-InternOps, we are able to present to you an unprecedented audio recording of this rally, so that you may hear with your own ears the open, true voice of the Clans in an unbiased format.

Be warned, what you are about to hear may shock, offend, and even frighten you, and may not be appropriate for all viewers. We strongly advise that children and the elderly leave the room. Regardless of what you are about to hear, you need not be frightened; Omni-Tek will protect you, no matter what.

You have just heard a typical rally of the Clans. The man who spoke on behalf of the Council of Truth, Elder Sallust of the Pilgrims Clan, has done as Henry Radiman before him: fired up a large crowd with promises of action that are left unfulfilled. The uneducated clansmen, angry at the poor leadership which has given them a life of poverty, strife, and unfulfilled promises, have foolishly turned their anger against peaceful and well-meaning Omni-Tek citizens, people like you and me, instead of where it rightfully belongs. The clan leaders falsely accuse Omni-Tek of using "propaganda", while it is they who bluster out empty platitudes. Omni-Tek makes good on the promises we deliver to our citizens.

When we say that "Omni-Tek Protects", we speak of the courageous men and women of Omni-Pol, Omni-Armed Forces, Omni-InternOps, and dedicated Omni special forces units who risk their lives every day fighting against those who would endanger you or your family. The treacherous villains who threatened to attack our Omni homes, members of a terrorist clan who call themselves Nightmare's Echo, are being hunted down as I speak to you right now.

Our brave forces will stand firm against Nightmare's Echo, they will stand firm against the Dust Brigade, they will stand firm against the Sentinals, they will stand firm against terrorists and bandits of all stripes until Rubi-Ka is at peace once more!

I know that despite the gravity of last night's broadcast, some people are wondering how it might effect them. It may seem like the events that played out in the recording are a world apart. There are at least three reasons why this recording needed to be broadcast worldwide:

First, I would like to say that the actions of people far away can often have a profound effect on our lives. I had almost nothing to do with the various changes of the Newland city guard, nor do I bump into the people who had a hand in that affair except for in the rarest of circumstances ((Like visiting Atlantian with an alt)). However, it has had a major impact on the world around me, with repercussions that may be greater than anyone around here could imagine. Someday, someone you have never met (or even heard of) could take actions that effect you.

Secondly, it is important to remember that while there are two chambers to the Council of Truth, there is only one council. Whatever political tides effect one of the chambers will have an effect on the fate, makeup, and character of the Council as a whole. I can guarantee you that an event this large will have an effect on the Council, the world around you, and ultimately yourselves.

Finally, this recording was broadcast worldwide in order to keep all citizens of Rubi-Ka informed of the current state of affairs in the world. I'm sure many would consider the rally an interesting event; if it was not broadcast here many people would miss out on the opportunity to hear it, and discuss it's possible implications and what it means to them.

I hope this clears up any confusion about the matter.

OOC: ((this is a pathetic display, and frankly, Im feeling almost ill at the posters use of this in any RP capacity whatsoever. This log contains NO rp at all, and just goes to illustrate what RP has come to on Rubi-Ka! To even use this, god knows I dont see how any RP'er can take it seriously, to try and portray the RP populations sentiment when it comes to the CoT is beyond me. the same "k3w1 d00dz" can be seen acting in the same pathetic way during OT rallies as this one shows, so to be honest, I cant see any serious rp'er even wanting to use it for anything...

((I know this is an In Character forum, but since we have a big misunderstanding here, I'm hoping that the moderators can cut us a little slack so I can respond.


I don't think it was Runlovnfreak's intention to be a "k3w1 d00d" event griefer, but rather play the role of a war-oriented clan member. Granted, he did a terrible, terrible, oh GOD so terrible job at it. However, it should be noted that this is not really a failure of RP, but a success; the CoT staff was able to get people who don't normally participate in roleplaying or storyline issues to try and contribute something, and I think that's just ducky. Running storylines within the RP community is a fun for the day to day events, for something as expansive and inclusive as the Council of Truth we have to be able to accomodate folks who don't know how to roleplay very well.

The flip side of this is that we have to put some extra effort in boosting our suspension of disbelief and meet the RP gimps halfway. This can be tough sometimes, but I find that the best approach is to step back and look at an "outline" of what is being said.


In this example:

1. Sallust of the CoT staff is trying to convince the undecided clans to register representatives with the Council, but was taken off guard by the rather raucous response and was unable to answer some of the tough questions thrown at him by Ramaladu.

2. Ramaladu grilled the CoT staff on what the council stood for and verbally attacked the way it was set up.

3. Runlovnfreak and the other warhawks, from which most all of the "harrassment" came, demanded to know why the council was so slow to take action and decided they were better off trying to take care of Omni the old-fashioned way.

4. Jacob Stroud's department in Omni-Tek completely sliced and diced an audio recording of the rally until it was a suitable propaganda piece and then broadcast it worldwide.


Can a serious roleplayer use any of this? Of course! Especially someone like Cogs. Sallust already has a post on the Council of Truth Political Forurm trying to get an idea of what the agendas the Council will be involved in so he can be more prepared for the next event; he is waiting for a response. While you are there, you also need to find a way to address some of the political questions raised by Ramaladu; you'll need to talk to Sallust about that since many of the more constructive details got left on the InternOps cutting room floor.

As for the warmongers, if you just shrug off the Non-RP military clans you still have to deal with the RP militants, and if you shrug THEM off you still have to deal with the Sentinels eventually. Someone's going to have to come up with a plan to deal with the situation, you might as well get cracking.

Finally, Cogs can always get on a pirate gridcast station and tell Jacob where he can stuff his slimy, no-good propaganda.


In conclusion, I need to point out one more thing: the bad-acting warhawks are members of clans who have more "skilled" representatives signed up on the council webpage. This truly is a case of people trying to participate and not really knowing how.))
