Omni-Pol in Cahoots with the Medusa?
Perrine
South of 20K, Central Meadows -- (FJRK) -- My informant had said "Seems Omni-Pol is gathering up Omni-Tek employees in 20K to go on some sort of hunting expedition." Finding that report more than a little disturbing, I arranged transport to Central Meadows in the fixer grid to see if I could witness this activity myself.
I managed to arrive in this Omni-controlled area undetected by the local wildlife or any patrolling forces. Weaving my way through the trees toward 20K, I stumbled across a loosely assembled band of Omni-Tek employees, apparently gathered under the direction of several Lieutenants of Omni-Pol. The teams were wandering about aimlessly, looking every bit like a group of conscripts rather than a squadron with any kind of training.
With a shout of "Over here!" the crowd surged toward what looked like a makeshift camp set up outside a cave in the meadow. As predicted by my source, the camp was inhabited by dozens of Medusa Elite Soldier Elders who began attacking the Omni forces. Instantly, bodies began to hit the ground, a few medusae at first, but the monsters gained the upper hand quickly, as more and more Omni-Tek employees fell to their stinging blows.
Trying to make sense of what I was seeing, I approached the combatants. My queries were met either with silence, or robotic answers of "We do as we are told, these monsters must be killed". Frustrated, I began to work my way past the main cluster of combat, and was stopped by Corporal "Lomad" Hawke who seemed unusually concerned about the presence of a "civilian" on the scene, warning me to stay back.
Despite the presence of several medusa leaders, including Huntress Tolla the Elder, the Omni-Pol lieutenants seemed more interested in the collection of "geo data cards" than in exterminating the medusae population. Su****ious that Corporal Hawke was more intent on keeping me away from this data than he was in protecting me from harm, I sought out anyone having seen one of these cards. Several of the surviving troops claimed to have handled the disks, but no one professed any interest in what information they may have contained.
"If Omni-Tek wanted us to read the contents of the data, they would've told us so," a rather large but dim looking Atrox named Title "Habibus" Hugger said from the midst of the gathering.
"Were you not curious?" I asked.
"Perhaps a team was ambushed by these medusae, it is however not our place to ask such questions, only to assist Omni-Tek when they require it." With that statement, Habibus and several others shouted that they had spotted a "green medusa" named Ninya, who was to be "escorted" back to safety. Surely this individual and the "geo survey data" possessed by her cohorts was considered quite valuable by Omni-Pol. I would have to make contact with my Clan sources for further investigation.
With only mindless, tractable Omni employees left milling about the area, I decided to make my way back to civilization. Lomad, who earlier attempted to shield me from combat, claimed responsibility for escorting me past the guards at the Pleasant Meadows Ferry to Harry's. Bemusedly, I followed as he admonished his companions, "Form up on the reporter. If she dies, I'll see you all brought up on charges of gross negligence."
After crossing the ferry and arriving at Harry's grid terminal, I couldn't help but wonder the significance of this data so blithely turned over to Omni-Pol. Yet as I accessed the grid, my long standing opinion of Omni-Tek citizens was reconfirmed, as General "Filthgrinder" made obscene, drooling gestures and muttered "Hump you later!"
