Awesome descriptions there, and certainly broadens the scope of missions. Straight to the designers with this.

LOL. Not my experience with crats, just my experience with pickup groups. There's always one guy who just says "lets go, lets go, lets go" then quits when he gets too impatient. :) I randomly chose the professions in question.

Let's get some more ideas in here, folks. I'll post some when I think of them.

  7. #87

    Especially

from people with experience with NTs, MPs, Crats, and so on... I'm really impressed with the ideas so far and am looking forward to more.

Woah! Now this seems like content!!!
Lookng awsome Trosida. Extremly nice work.
The problems tho are that if some one leaves the team, you have to run back to get more peps and so fourth...
Allso, it would require much luck as its hard to get the exact professions you need...

But the idea is brilliant tho!

An adjunct idea that has been mentioned is the ability to set in your mission required professions. This depending an the team you've already set up you can tune the mission to those profs. Another way around potential problems is to make sure the 'puzzles' somewhat overlap across professions. It's not foolproof, but should help obviate the losing a member problem.

However, here's hoping FC implement at least some trial puzzles and see how it goes!

The idea is that the mission terminal would detect which profession are in your team at the moment, and so you would never have to hunt for certain professions. It wouldn't be too hard to develop certain mission aspects tailored to each profession, then when generating a mission, detect which professions are in the team, and add elements to the mission according to those professions.

Profession specific missions also need not only be purely team missions. If there is only one person gettng the mission (not a team), then they would get a mission that uses only aspect of their profession. There may be multiple problems that need to be solved in pretty much the same way, but that would just be an issue of creating as many puzzles for each profession as possible. Also, the mobs in the mission should be tailored to the profession as well in terms of difficulty of the mobs. If a Doc takes a mission, then the mobs that must be killed should be much easier than the mobs that would appear in an enforcer mission. Also, attack power, ac, and hp should be tweaked seperately. To have mobs with a very high attack power in a mission with an NT would be unfair, but it would not necessarily be unfair to give the mobs a larger than normal number of hitpoints. It might also be interesting to make mobs in NT missions have very high AC to all except 1 or 2 types of damage. That way, the NT would have to use different nanos in their arsenal to take into account damage type, not only the amount of damage alone.

Also, I think one of the most important things to have with these missions is the possibility for failure. Current missions, there is no real possiblity for failure, other than waiting too long, deleting the mission, or simply extreme and total stupidity (selling the return item in a find-return mission). I dont' care about what rewards would be offered. In truth, these missions might be a perfect way to get IPReset points. Gaute mentioned that they might be available as rewards in the future.

Once again, these are just thoughts. Feel free to comment. Try to keep things constructive.

    I think that's a fine line we're walking here.

Say we're on a L 20 mission and THE door requires B&E of 200. If you don't have it you just can't complete the mission. Note how we are sort of stereotyping thief types: they are REQUIRED to have high B&E to be useful on missions.

That said, I think "so what". Not all missions are possible. As the difficulty goes up, what if instead of harder mobs sometimes you only have 45 minutes from NOW to get to the site and complete the goal instead. Yes they are all green, but can you get from Avalon to TLR and clear the mission that quickly?

Missions now are a trudge because you know you will succeed..heck AND get a token, if you do THIS...no time limit, just kill everything. Death doesn' t matter, just kill everything.

Here's hoping for more ideas here.

Yeah, keep the current missions available but give us other options. I, for one, would love missions that make a difference! Where if completed they make it easier for your side (clan, Omni, neutral) and/or harder for the other side.

    Talking Bumpity blah!

This brings to mind an idea.....

Adventurer A: Gentlemen, the Consortium of Leet Dominance (/OOC not a real group yet) has been implementing their plan to starve all the citizens of Rubi Ka out by propogating in record numbers and breaking into food storage facilities and farms. They've wreaked havoc in many towns and some cities, and this must be put a stop to.

Adventurer B: Yeah, but how do we do that? So far every attempt to communicate with the native life here has resulted in them trying to kill us. We have no foot in the door so to speak.

Adventurer C: That is where we as a group come in. A certain 'Twarl' of The Leet Dominance Consortium wants to turn informant in exchange for escort, protection and relocation.

Enforcer: So what do we need to do.

    Adventurers:............

Adventurer A: This mission would require anyone with morph ability to escort Twarl by surrounding and disguising him with our own forms, so we appear as a small group of leets....

Adventurer D:.......As opposed to Leets being farmed by some ruffian!

Adventurer A: Correct! And we have no time to spare as the Consortium knows of Twarl and his plan and is hunting for him now!

Adventurer B: You can always make some muffins for when we get back! I'm sure Twarl will be very cooperative with a full belly!

    Just an idea.
Give me liberty, or give me a bronto-burger (or kill me)!

    See

Nothing to it! Seems most classes have some ready-made ideas of how their skills could be utilized in missions.

    Let's hear some more!

    NT phone HOME!!

  18. #98

    whoa!

I utterly love this! Total, utter and complete respect Trosida!

A few more ideas here, namely Ability based rooms/objects:

    * The team encounters a door that simply won't budge. The Engie struggles with his nano-pylons and the fixer with his hacking tool. "Bah!" Says the mighty Atrox enforcer, casts his STRENGTH-raising nano, and knocks it off it's hinges. "Heh, used to do dat all da time at kindergarden" he says to the dumbfounded team. "Pick up da gadgets and lets go bang some more!"

    * "How the friggin Leet are we supposed to get up there?" the MP asked his team, the item supposed to be returned to clan laboratories lingered at a gleaming pedistal out of the teams grasp. "I mean if it was outside I could probably fly up and get it..."... "I think I can reach it" the MA interrupted, stretching his legs. "I used to jump cliffs of that height when I was younger. For solitude and contemplation. Hope I still have it in me." "Here, this might help" the agent said and uploaded a AGILITY-nano in the MA's NCU. "Not quite" the MA murmered, reached into a bag and pulled out his trusty old G-staff (adds to AGILITY). "This will hopefully do it." With a mighty leap he took off, landing square on the pedistal. "Got it. Let's hurry back." he said, winking at his teammates."Funny, you looke like ants down there."

    * The team wearily enters a big room, just as empty as the rest of the mission. (Soldier fumbles uneasily at his gun) - Hey guys, whats up here... no bad guys? The door slams shut behind them and a horrible wail comes out of hidden speakers. Fixer, Engie, Soldier and MA all fall to the floor, unable to move or do anything except covering their ears in mental pain. And 'lo and behold, here comes the Bad Guys! The NT, with superior PSYCHIC, calms the baddies, struggles towards a control panel and manages to switch off the torturous sound, and the stunned comrades come back to their senses. The fixer bursts off a barrage of fire at the bad guys closing in on the lone NT, "Engaging!" "Haiiiya!" "Me gonna crush You! Crush you to goo!" The fight was a bit more even now.

Basic point is that we have all these snazzy stat-raising nanos and items, not to mention that different breeds/profession focus on different abilities. I'd love to see some more use for these other then putting on a better piece of armour.

Lightbulb Many ways to skin a cat.

One way round the problem of people leaving the team is to make the mission completable by more than one skillset.

For example, the locked door mentioned above could be lockpicked (fixer), sabotaged / demolished (engy), or just broken down (enforcer).

Similarly, a "stop this guy from using his horrible PK weapons"
mission could be resolved by 1. sneaking in and sabotaging the weapon (fixer/agent) 2. killing the guards and taking the weapon 3. killing the boss that intends to use it (enforcer)

This could be taken to the logical extreme where we don't need class-specific missions, but all characters can draw on the unique talents of their class to complete missions.

    yah

I did indeed dream about these missions. Could we ask Cos/Cz to move this thread where it wont be deleted by 14.2 temp forum?
