Thread: Anarchy Online to open new German server

    S T U P I D

how about funcom spends more time fixing the THOUSANDS of problems still existing on the two current servers instead of marketing their faulty product to other companies that will steal players away from those two existing servers?

just pull the plug on the servers already and put us all out of our misery.

There are plenty of germans on Rk1 and Rk2. But they are hard to find cause they have a good disguise and chat english It is always a funny thing to play with another player for hours and to the end you find out that you could have talked in german all the time

Btw i will continue to chat english even if i have a char on this german server. There might be people who won't understand a single german word

    hmm...

Why not a PvP server funcom? O sorry....I forgot..this is FUNCOM (the unimaginative) I am speaking to. And fix us engies!

  5. #25
For Funcom it makes no difference -If they they´re running 2 Serverfarms would be ease for them to build another 1
And customerservice would be provided by Gamigo
-sounds like easy money for them -they only need to buy the hardware

p.S.: ich kann mich wohl nich verstecken

I think they are thinking money-wise. The germans player base is huge, coming in second of US players. With a German server they can get more players easier, since many germans like to speak their own language (like the french) and will most probably like the idea of having a server in Germany. I would personally never go to that server eventhough I live in scandinavia. I cant speak german, I will never learn it, and I refuse to walk around Rubi-Ka listening to german all day long, because that's whats going to happen. There will be germans all over and noone will speak english.

Anyway.. Even if it is a good idea economicly for FunCom I think it's a bad idea for the people playing. As stated before in this thread one of the good things about AO is the fact that I meet people from ALL the world here, not just scandinavians, or US-players. Even having RK2 feels bad, they should put the hardware to RK1 instead.

    Server location

I have also gotten the expression that the two AO-servers are located in North-America, and the thing about distance doesn't affect connection-speed, isn't that just bull****?

  8. #28

    Angry I don't get it ?

    Really..i don't get it ?

    1. Placing a server in Germany is okay.....would be cool for all people IN EUROPE !
    2. I am Dutch and i always speak English in game, not Dutch and like hell not German.
    3. Making all GM's and ARK's on the server speak german sucks !
    4. IF (and i doubt that very much) the German populations is so HUGE on RK1 and RK2, it will have an impact on both servers (specially RK2).

Make an European server in germany, and continue the support in ENGLISH or ALL European languages. Or just make a server in every country in the whole world.
Players from Europe have been begging to have a European server, and now Funcom just simply stated:

Oh btw....we are doing a German server with German speaking GM's and ARK's....but the game will stay English ofcourse !
Isn't this a slap in the face of all European players ?

It is typical German to have there own server with support in their own language...they do it with everything.....<shakes head>

I would be really surprised if the german GM's couldn't speak english as well.

  10. #30

    Thumbs down ????

They stated it is a German Server...NOT an European server with german language support AKA Native German speaking with an English game:

The dimension will open in May, and is in cooperation with the German online community and support site, gamigo AG.

"The German dimension will be staffed by German speaking Gamemasters and ARKs (Advisors of Rubi-Ka), and gamigo will also provide regular customer service outside the game," says the press release.

Does it say it will be a English speaking server ? Nope....100% German...........Way to go FunnyCom !

  11. #31
Where did it say it's 100% german? Can't be.... they don't translate the game They only say the personel can speak german. They will be most likely able to speak english as well (everything else would be nuts).

But primary it's a money issue i guess. Read the thread in the in-progress-forum.

    http://forums.anarchy-online.com/sho...threadid=19949

  12. #32

    really ?

    Read this.....:

"We are very happy! gamigo is the perfect partner whose experiences in customer support and community building for online games will help us form ideal synergies to greatly improve the accessibility of Anarchy Online for German players", says André Backen, president of Funcom, in regards to the cooperation with gamigo AG.

and go to Gamigo website and read there....This server is going to be a 100% german native language server EXCEPT for the game it self which will NOT be translated.

    Some clarification (loooong)

    Hello everyone!

I read the whole thread and would like to provide some clarification, as there seem to be some misconceptions about:

We are NOT taking ressources away from Rubi-1 and Rubi-2!
The German dimension is a cooperation with Gamigo. They will provide the support.

We are aware of the fact that most Germans who are already in the game speak English sufficiently well and will probably not be interested in switching to the new dimension. That's a good thing because we do not want the existing population of Rubi-1 and Rubi-2 to suffer.
However, arguing that a German server is pointless because all Germans in the game speak English so well is a bit narrow-minded. The new dimension is obviously aimed at people who are NOT in the game yet. So far, the game was only accessible for Germans who own a credit card (not as common there as it is in the US) and whose English is above average. The cooperation with Gamigo allows us to change that and make the game available for a much broader audience in Germany. That is good for the players there, good for us as a company, and ultimately good for the rest of the playerbase, since more subscriptions mean more ressources. Why Germany? Well, the market is big and we were approached by a German company. Germany makes sense. It is not some elitist thing, as our dutch friends in this thread seem to think. The same thing would easily be thinkable in another country.

I am German and I also used to play UO a lot, enjoying the "international" aspect of the game. I started on Atlantic. I later changed to Drachenfels, not because I wanted to speak German exclusively but because I wanted better connection speed and customer support that works during my prime hours. For those who worry about losing that international flair with having local servers, I can only say that I worry, too. However, we are trying to find the best compromise possible. And there is one fact that cannot be denied: Most people in a specific country prefer a specialised server. Reading polls and articles in the gaming press proves it. Bearing that in mind, one can at least do certain things to prevent the whole thing from becoming too monocultural. First of all, the game will remain in English for now. Secondly, I wouldn't worry too much about the German customer service. It shouldn't be too hard to find a GM who also speaks decent English. So, we try to keep the whole thing as international as possible while removing the language barrier for those who have troubles with it.

Another important thing to note: I don't particuarly like the comparison to GOA/Mythic. We have a cooperation with Gamigo but AO is still OUR game. There won't be a "Europe-only" version of Anarchy Online either. All clients work with all dimensions. Having unique versions for the regional markets truly fosters a monoculture, and that would be the last thing I want.

Phew, guess that was already too long for most people to read, so I leave it at that for now. Should you guys have any questions I haven't covered, feel free to post them. I'll check back on this thread over the next couple of days.

Oh mr emphasis, how bout the dutch/french/belgian people???
Credit cards arent as widely available there aswell, why in godsname make a european server where everyone speaks german??
    Isnt that abit hypocritical??

Arent the other european people allowed to have a better connection??
Is this a german only thing??

Some advice to you : THINK before you say something.

You say you want a better con and now can do it, well goodmorning mr dippy head, im dutch and i want a better connection aswell, but im NOT gonna play on some server where everyone speaks german, did that on Drachenfells myself and aint gonna be tricked to do it again.

  16. #36
Lol, the netherlands are sure so far away from Germany that your connection will be totally crap

  17. #37

How bout using those 2 round things in yer head, they are called eyes.
    Read my post once more:

People on the server will be talking german, German events and stuff, sorry but as a dutchie myself i dont talk german, and thus i can go on a server where i dont understand anything and play with low pingage,
or i can play on the normal servers and can understand everything.

My point is that that server SHOULDNT be english with german language stuff, it should be english with english language stuff so all europeans could use that fast pingage.

FC isnt thinking about their player base atm, they are thinking with that thing in their pants, and yes i mean their wallet.
This clearly makes them a bunch of money hungry idiots

I used my eyes and found 2 lines in your post as follows:

Arent the other european people allowed to have a better connection??
Is this a german only thing??

Maybe you should re-read your own post again?

This starts to look like a flame. I'm quitting here.

What he means is that this way if Euro players want to have a good ping to AO the only possibility is to play on a server where the spoken language is German. Now most Euro people outside Germany are not able to, and don't want to speak German.
