    Team Play article !!!!!!!!!!!

    My gawd!!!!!!!!!!

I read about half of it before I wanted to throw up.

Funcom has no idea how this game is played if this is How they think the game is played!

Couldnt read more than half of the article because it bothered me on so many levels. They really have no idea across the board what this game is like.

Funcom get your ass off the keyboard and play your game. Codeing an idea and having it work are two different things. HEHEHEHE when was the last time you saw a TRUE tank? Blahhh whatever they suck.

I normaly love those articles, but that was the most worthless piece of drivle I've ever read.

For once we agree on something. This particular piece of inspired creative writing will live with me forever:

"Crowd-controller - Sometimes the puller will pull more than the 1-3 monsters he expected to. Some professions are specialised in making the team able to survive multiple monsters at once. The Bureaucrat is the master at this, by using mesmerising programs, charms and stuns. The Trader also has a "calming" line of programs, which causes monsters to relax. Monsters can also be immobilised with "roots" (Fixers and Adventurers). It's vital that the rest of the team hits on the same monster as the main tank - so that they don't ruin the effort of the crowd controllers by attacking the rooted or mesmerised monsters"

by Trond Ivar Hansen (aka Jim Salabim) - designer, Anarchy Online Live Team

I direct your attention to the second to last sentence, apparently adventurers have a line of root nanos and they don't know about it. They are masters of the root along with Fixers. Lol

How totally and utterly clueless can you get? FC's official guide written by their designated expert on the subject of teaming and he sticks his foot in his mouth by attributing a nano ability to a class that obviously doesn't have it. Priceless Rah! @ Jim! No wonder this game is a mess, even the designers don't have the first idea.

I actually read the whole thing and came here ready to write a big long annoyed post about how ungodly wrong the entire thing was, but find myself just not careing enough to expend that much effort right now on someone writing from the POV of a level 20-40 newbie. I seriously wonder what game the writer is playing because it's obviously not the same one we do.

It DOES have it's target audience - we're just not it :-)

the article isn't SO horrible as it is useless, at least to those who frequent these boards; do remember that he clearly states it's not written for benefit of any guys who wrote in this thread so far.
Personally, when I was starting I could honestly have used an easy guide like that one to know what the heck "tanking" or "pulling" or ANYthing was.
Asking higher level players had 50/50 chance of getting either a useful answer or being set on /ignore. We're all one big friendly family

That being said, some of the mistakes in there are inexcusable; (Adventurer's roots, no mention of MA/Adv team heals as was posted in another thread etc) and in terms of usefullness to experienced players, it's certainly far behind the recent articles...

It should've been added to FAQ, rather then being a feature-article, and after the mistakes are rooted out, all would've been happy

I don't think it's written for the benefit of anyone who plays this game, those who read and post in the forums have nothing to do with that. Aside from all the glaring downright wrong things listed there everything written about the meta in that article was wrong or just incorrect with the exception of us having nanoskill buffs. I don't remember the last time I waited for a soldier or enforcer to start chipping away at an ace to hit my /pet fluffy attack macro... it's always the other way around, pet classes hit it and they join in after. between my anger debuffs, an aggro enhancer of higher QL than most tank classes i run across, my demon, curse, high aggro mind quake nuke, and my healpet I would consider a huge chunk of my job in groups to be saving the ass of anyone who's going to die. hell they didn't even mention pets in the bit about tanks except later as an afterthought to point out that pets can tank somewhat.

Adventurers dont have roots yet they are a rooting class somehow.

granted I don't know many doctors and to be frank look for them only if there are alot of non pet classes in my group because there is absolutely nothing they can do for me. they cant heal my pet nor can they heal a bot, if i get full aggro from an ace and dont manage to drop it right off the bat im going to die pretty quick doc healing me or not. I can say without a doubt however i've never seen a doc "leading the group" and cant immagine why they would be seeing as that would increase the odds that they gain aggro...

as an MP i would love a run buff since it affects my pet's speed as well.. but guess what? I have 335 NCU's and am going to reserve that last 39 NCU's i have free for just about anything else... I don't think i've ever seen someone ask for a runbuff in a group unless you count running back to the outpost in lush to save as a newbie...

It says im a great debuffer as a meta... err wait

    Dominate: MC
    Dominate: TS
    Dominate: PM
    Dominate: SI
    Dominate: MM
    Dominate: BM
All lower the proper skill by i believe 125 points.
Mind quake lowers all nanoskills by 100 points for ~10 seconds i believe it is, the one below is -65, there are more below that as well.

did you know that when mobs could cast last word dominate+mindquake would not even hinder that ability? Did you know that aside from neleb the derranged I've yet to find a mob that had their casting affected by the above nano's? only against aces do i really have time to cast my only nanoskill debuff that has an affect against mobs (nanoshutdown) and it's resisted horribly on them with it's 160% resist... then im left having spent ~7-8 seconds casting it and ~10 seconds recharging (didn't check those numbers). Oh yea I have another line of awsome debuffs too.... they lower inits and damage... A mere 775 matmet, and 703 psymod can let me instantly pull near unloseable aggro for an amazing -33 damage and -224 init debuff.. wow that's amazingly useful... i've always used the lower level versions of them to draw aggro so i could save someone's ass... they are utterly useless after about level 50 or so. So... aside from one debuff and a handful of useless debufs i suppose yes I am a great debuffing class

ok, so he's not exactly *right* in what he's saying.... :P

I still meagerly hold that I would've read that article very gladly when I just started the game. Not countering your point at all, you've made it and backed it up 200%:); I'm a lower-level MP myself, and I would not argue with any of those points, in fact I play my MP darn near the same way:) - just offering a different perspective...

When I started... and I like to think myself as not entirely idiotic, merely a complete noob to MMORPG's;)... I couldn't even remember all the classes, let alone what they do. LvL 30 seemed unobtainable God-like state. Paying for my energy ammo seemed darn near impossible. Words such as "root", "pet", "tank", "DOT", "nuke", "buff", "mob" etc - they were all part of some strange slang I was not privy to... whether lvl 150 MP nano debuff was useful or not - what are you talking about? I couldn't understand what "MP nano debuff" meant, let alone care less how effective it is!;)
All your points are well taken, and correct - and completely irrelevant to a lvl 1 startup noob, at least if I and my friends were any indication. We would've read that article, picked up the important, big concepts (what a "tank" is and what "riot control" is), and believe me, by lvl 2 (if not before) promptly have forgotten the "details" such as whether MP Dominate Debuffs are effective or not... or even perhaps whether Adventurer has roots or not, if we weren't playing it (though that is a slip that I cannot believe got past any editors out there! basically everybody reads those articles sooner or later!:()

so - all I'm saying, something akin to that article, but accurate and correct;), should've been slipped to an FAQ section somewhere without great fanfare, and it would've been useful:).

That it's misplaced and error-ridden, I do not disagree at all :)

Its not that something target at level 1 startup noobs is a bad thing. Heck some say anything is better than nothing.

The fact is there is so much crap in there that you will be making the life of noobs that much harder. Sure they will welcome it, but when they find out how much crap was in there they will be pissted.

Point them in the right Direction and not blow smoke up their butts. All the crap in that article is how the coders code the game. It has nothing to do with how the game is played at all.

Yes their intentions were in the right place. So was the intentions of Hitler when he just wanted to put his country back in the place of power. Yes I know that reference is a big stretch, but any path leading in the opposite direction ends up in the same place :OP

Every paragraph that I read, lead the target group down the opposite path. :O(

    heh

That sounded like something pasted from the game manual. Start playing the game and listen to your customers and you'll notice a huge improvement. I actually dont understand what their problem is... there are currently a lot of issues with this game, and if they only would talk to the players we could solve it together, but they just dont listen...instead they add 20 new items every patch so we'll have something to play with.

Start talking to us and we can fix this...
This reality, whatever you want to call it, I can't stand it any longer. It's the smell, if there is such a thing. I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink and every time I do, I fear that I've somehow been infected by it

Pure Mantra - I'm a runner, and damn proud of it.

it is fine to target the thing to lower levels.

if would have been right to proofread the doggone thing and check facts.

low level players can benefit from the very same information experienced players have. they might not be able to apply it all, but it would not be bad to give it to them.

i now think it is comical and should have a stronger disclaimer.

Its a fine article for newbs, good laughs for ancients.

One mistake i'd like to point out is the role that the "puller" plays. Heaven knows we have SOOO many advantages when we pull.
I was one of the people who believe that FC had a "secret" 12.0 patch just before launch....he he.

You start to think that the Shrooms are wearing off and then you look at the ceiling and realize you got a few hours.

Misguiding is never good for noobies.

I found things wrong in every parargraph if not multiple things. The only thing that does is make the game harder than knowing notihing at all.

  13. #13

    well

Some of the basic concepts in team mechanics are correct, but I'm rather horrified at the errors in there. Didn't anyone proofread it before it was posted?
