Cause of Recent Metaphysical Activity Sought by Multi-Department Omni Taskforce

The whole mess started on 28 August at the Rompa in Omni-Entertainment District. I was sent out to check on a disturbance at the Rompa which was reported over the public Omni-Pol frequency. As is often my luck, I arrived after things had calmed down. However, quite a few people were still hanging around and let's face it, no one in Omni-Ent will turn down a chance to get their name in the papers.
As I entered I was quite literally knocked over by a gentleman who quickly apologized and introduced himself as Cedrick Clyburn but he insisted that I call him Trybes. I asked what had happened earlier and luckily for me he seemed to be quite sober- he quickly related the details exclaiming that some sort of apparition had appeared.
"A voice came telling us to gather around and listen" he said, "After a few minutes a man appeared, telling us to go into the portal and grab our destiny. He told us he came from the crossroads themselves."
When asked how he would characterize this mysterious prankster Trybes said "Everyone on this world is short of a few marbles."
Next I collared a passing local Officer from a sub division of Omni-Pol for questioning. Surprisingly Officer Marcai was very accommodating... unlike many troopers I'd have the misfortune of dealing with."I saw an odd gentleman... beard, black hair, had a sort of trench coat on... others say he is a Jobe nut, but I don’t know. I am guessing it must have about the new portal that the scientists stabilized, but then without seeing his ID, he could be just another street punk with nothing better to do." The Officer then excused himself to carry on with his patrol.
I returned to the office that night and pushed this whole thing off to the side of my desk, convinced that is was a hoax. That is, until yesterday.
An old source of mine in the IRRK called me with an urgent tip from Omni-Trade District. Yet again, I was fashionably late arriving, but caught up with him in Entertainment where I was quite surprised by what I saw.
There before me were InternOps Empaths, Omni-Med Scientists and Engineers being conducted through the area under heavy escort by Omni-Pol Elite Troopers. While my contact worked the crowd over for information I decided to play hardball and went straight to the source- a short Atrox wearing a Captain insignia in mirrored black armor. Captain Barchawn, as is often the case with military types, was loathe to discuss his mission in public. He simply said that he was to escort these investigators, and knew no more.
Luckily for me, I have some contacts higher up in Omni-Pol who were able to put me in contact with Barchawns superior, Commander Jachobs who was available for a brief interview. The Commander explained that there was some concern for public health and safety with all these recent supposed "ghost sightings". "Omni-Admin is very concerned about the well being of its employees. When reports began to pour into Omni-Pol in such large numbers, we became concerned that something may be harming our colleagues’ mental health." he said.
I asked about the presence of Empathic Investigators from InternOps to which he replied: "Presently a large multi-department Taskforce is working together to track down the source of these appearances and put a stop to this non-sense. It's our mission to serve the employees of our glorious company, and we will serve and protect them by eliminating this absurd distraction. Omni-Tek employees have a lot on their minds without worrying about draped men speaking vague prophesies." Just to press the point home I asked the Commander, "Do you think there's anything more to this than meets the eye? Perhaps this is not just a hoax or a random occurrence?" his reply was startling for one of his profession "Perhaps it is more significant that we imagine, but if it is truly a prophet, will we understand the message before it's too late? History says no. So I'll just do my job, and I suggest you do yours. Good day Mr Quahm." And with that statement he concluded my interview.
Are the apparitions, now appearing all over our world and not just in Omni-1, truly a sign of things to come or merely a hoax? Is this Jobe portal really going to change life as we know it at such a fundamental level? This reporter doesn't have the answers to those questions, but one way or another, we're all going to find out real soon.
