    .....shadows.....

Administrator Charles 'Kithrak' Houston fell asleep at his desk with a clutter of papers and forms all around him, most of them half completed. He was awaken by the sound of his comm unit beeping. Wakeing up and he lifted his head from the desk blinking in a daze trying clear the cobwebs of sleep from his mind.

"Huh, did I fall asleep again?" Kithrak asked himself as he peeled one of the forms off his forehead. Takeing a quick look at the form he groaned and set it down. He has been extremely busy as of late, fileing all the paperwork needed for his department's annual report.

"I know I'm supposed to be a bureaucrat but cripes, this paperwork is almost as lethal as the clanners." Kithrak thought to himself. Killing the spirit for the former and latter killing the body.

The comm unit beeped again and he felt no strong inclination to answer it. "Probablly just another call from a new colonist asking how to become a bureaucrat for Omni-Admin." How they managed to get his number, he never knew.

If it was a new colonist, they were very patient as the unit beeped again. Sighing he clicked the comm unit on and.....nothing. Kithrak began to wonder if it was a prank call when he heard a single word spoken softly, barely audiable. ".....shadows....." and the call terminated.

The administrator stiffened as he recalled the codeword and knew what he must do. He pressed a blue button next to the comm unit and his Omni-Admin Guardian droid that stood guard outside his office walked in. "You have requested my presence master?"

Kithrak waves for his droid to approach his desk "Yes, I need you to sit in my chair and remain there until I return for you." The droid paused momentarily as it processed the odd command. It looked to Kithrak. "I will obey."

He got up from his seat and allowed the Guardian droid to take his place. Kneeling at a corner of the desk he felt around one of the simulated redwood panels until it clicked and a secreat compartment opened. He took out a briefcase and two saucer sized discs with metal prongs.

The droid offered no resistance or comment as the metal prongs from the first disc latch onto it. Kithrak gritted his teeth as he felt prongs from the second disc sink into the flesh of his right wrist. A hiss eminated from the second disc as it injected a painkiller and he felt the pain lessen immediately.

The administrator had to hurry, it was early in the morning and the new shift for security in the Omni-Admin HQ building haven't arrived yet. The first disc on his droid was set to mimic his own bio signature, makeing it look as if he was still asleep at his desk. The second one was a stealthing module, a third generation cloaking device developed by one of the black R&D projects he funded. For the next half hour Kithrak was effectively invisible in all known spectrums being surveillanced inside the Omni-Admin HQ. His biggest worry however wasn't being detected by the building's numerous sensors. When the morning shift for the security team arrived they will go to his office to see if he is alright having been there overnight. Of course, when they see that Administrator 'Kithrak' is a droid his deception would be unmasked.

By then it would be too late because he would be well on his way to the floating city of Jobe.

    Dreams

Kithrak had flown southwest in his Yalm from Omni-1 to the Sea of Jobe when a mechanical failure forced him to land on a small island. The woefully inadaquate auto repair system worked slowly. He could have been back in the air in mere hours if he activated a distress beacon and Omni-Search&Rescue would have him back in the air in no time. But, that would defeat the point of trying to sneak out undetected in the first place. It has been three days since he landed here. Waiting for the repairs to finish was about as entertaining as watching a leet shed fur. He dipped his head down wearily and...

Kithrak lifted his head back up and found himself back in his office. "What am I doing back here?" He wondered aloud to himself.

.....watch..... A voice answered back sounding not unlike his own.

He looked out the window of his office and was shocked in disbelief. Down below, the courtyard in the center of Omni-HQ was overrun by Clanner forces. A squad of Omni-Pol Supreme are trying to hold them off and steadily loseing ground. Kithrak looked more closely and saw why. Among the Clan soldiers were beings somehow protecting and guideing them. The beings were very unusually tall, slender and almost transparent. Noone seemed to notice them as they moved around the Clan soldiers gracefully helping nudge a Clan soldier this way to avoid a beam or step that way to avoid a rocket. And for each Clan soldier killed the beings braught another two in.

Kithrak gasped as he looked beyond the courtyard. The rest of Omni-1 were in flames. Aerial assult crafts bearing the insignia of a Clan that he never seen before chased down Omni fliers, millitary and civilian alike, blasting them out of the air.

Down below, the squad of Omni-Pol Supreme were finally silenced when the almost etheral looking beings walked up to the troopers and drew the life out of them. The cries from the soldiers could be heard even through the supposedly soundproof window. Kithrak yelled into his wrist comm urgently for his Omni-Admin Guardian droid stationed outside when one of the Clan aerial assult crafts approach his window. He stumbled back as he saw it launch a salvo of missles before pulling up. He tried to use his hands to shield his eyes as the missles impacted the side of the building somewhere above the floor he is on. The window shattered from the shockwave, a hail of sharp fragments flew into him.

His kevlar reinforced suit managed to stop most of the smaller fragments......and failed to stop several dozen larger ones. Kithrak fell back into his chair as a pair of Clanner aerial assult crafts in formation made a final pass at the Omni-Admin HQ building. Both hurled a large blue pill shaped canister at the base of the building.

The familar mechanical voice of his droid from behind him said. "Those were anti-matter bombs sir, we must evacuate!" He barely had enough time to turn away from the shattered window to face his droid when the bombs went off, shakeing the building violently. The entire building began to collapse immediately and the last thing he saw was a section of the ceiling crushing his droid and then ...darkness....

"Am I dead?" He thought to himself but then decided that he must still be alive to think that.
...you seen what could be... Was the reply in his voice.
Kithrak thought about that before responding. "What is your point? This is what could happen if a war with the clans broke out."
...wrong, this was peace... Answered his voice.
"Peace? That is impossible!" He challenged the response.
...you were shown peace... The voice let a hint of irritation show through.
Kithrak then felt the darkness begin to suffocate him.

He snapped awake in a cold sweat and jumped to his feet or rather, tried to. He hit his head on the canopy of his Yalm hard and yelled a few choice words. He ripped the REM sleep aid device from his forehead and threw it at the dashboard where it clanked harmlessly.

The computer showed that repairs were finished and the Yalm is fully operational again. Kithrak mechanically punched in instructions for take-off, his mind thinking about the unusual dream.

    Was it only a dream?

Kithrak reached the floating city of Jobe without further incident. There he linked up with the contact and was put to work immediately. His job was to train a squad of explorers in learning how to best 'exploit' the natives they will run accross to obtain the technology they will need. The squad will be sent in advance of the city's opening to the public, hence the need for secreacy.

The clans would not be happy if they found out Omni-Tek had a head start. It was because he believed in securing the company's superiority that he aggreed to the risks involved. The group that hired him knew his one weakness, the one thing he wanted more than power....knowledge.

Kithrak hated how Omni-Admin kept him out of the loop for many of the things that they do. This was his way of getting even with them. By keeping THEM out of the loop about his dealings. The group he is working for assured him that any su****ions raised by Omni-Admin on his return would be quelched. To show their 'appreciation' of his valuable skills they paid him well once this was all over.

Kithrak leaned on the railing on the balcony of his rool and looked at one of the floating islands below as the double suns setted on the horizon. Everything is still unhurried, they have time on their side for now. He took it all in, enjoying the moment. Quiet. Peaceful. Pure.

He had spent a week in the city of Jobe. Earlier today he finished with the squad's training. Tomorrow he will return to Omni-1 and find out if the group was true to their word and no one will ask about where he has been. He sighed wearily. Back into the politics of Rubi-Ka. Trying to talk sense into what remained of the pro-peace clans had been largely futile. Most didn't care and ignored him or threatened with violence if he didn't immediately stop and return to Omni terrority.

He pondered over the strange dream that he had while waiting for the auto repair to finish on his Yalm. The dream was dismissed as stress induced but it continued to disturb him greatly. Working to promote peace and co-existance with the Clans was all he had known since the beginning of his humble career on a 200 credit soapbox in Tir and Newland during the amnesty. The dream threatened everything that he has believed in and worked for up to this point. Perhaps this was his subconcious' way of telling him that it was hopeless?

Kithrak headed back to his room to prepare for bed with the tought still fresh on his mind.

    Confrontation

    *Two weeks later*

Kithrak stared blankly at the wall accross from him in his Omni-Admin office. He hadn't slept in over a week. Every night since his return he had the same nightmares of Clanners marching through Omni-HQ. Each time he argued with the sourceless voice, his voice.

...you seen what could be......this was peace...

After the fifth time he had quite enough and started to take REM pills to subsistute sleeping. Technology has its limits. The pills were only meant to delay sleep, eventually the pills lost their effectiveness. That was several day ago, his mind has no desire to go to sleep despite his body telling him otherwise. He blinked wearily and forced himself to look around. As long as he does not confront the sourceless voice and settle the matter once and for all, it will continue to mock his life's work in promoteing co-existance with the Clans.

    [OOC]
This concludes the most recent background storyline for Kithrak.
