Funcom wanted a "k3wl" character, and made this loser of a girl Elena. Since Omni-Tek isn't "cool" she had to be clan. Since being just a whiny loser with a junk car and underperforming breain they couldn't make her some powerful leader.
So they just make her be a friend of Radiman.
Very lame, and overall she's the lamest character in the very shallow story.

It's probably one of those "it'll be answered in time" deals like there are with most stories that are in their infancy.
(No, fallout, I'm not trying to start an "it's only a few weeks old, give it time" argument. Just trying to answer the guy's question)
Though, I gotta say - how in god's name do we all know of this girl's personal life? I mean, aren't we all just regular citizens on the planet? Seems pretty retarded to me.
Oh, and in the manual for the game, it gives a bio for Eleena and says that she's the youngest member of the council. Of course, the manual looks to have been written the day they decided the make the game, so I'd take it with a grain of salt.

She looks too much like a 3d model and not enough like a person. I mean, Ross and Radiman I can understand... but Elena just looks too cheesy.
At least she doesn't say "golly" or try to act like a wannabe badass.
That's the last thing we need... some character Funcom claims is "hot" and acts like Rambo... Tomb Raider anyone?

These people had lives prior to the Clan/Omni struggle. Is it possible that they developed a Grandfather/Granddaughter relationship while she was a bit younger, before the struggle, before she got involved in illegal activities (I get the impression he knows she is smuggling contraband)?
I agree with Kneecaps, more will be revealed as the story progresses.

I never saw the film, but in Star Wars 1 everyone said that Jar-jar was a loser designed to appeal to the kids.
Elena is designed to appeal to the teenage boys (like Tomb Raider) and really detracts from any serious story-telling.
Especially her mullet haircut.

She's so predictable: she's raven-haired, punk-esque, tomboy, immature but sometimes smart, quick-to-anger, aggressive, impatient and puts up a front of gruffness.
Just sickens me is all.
Yeah give me a grizzly old grandma with false teeth and a tendancy to use her walking stick as a battering ram for the main female hero.
A retired plumber, down on his luck with 3 kids and a broken marraige and a passion for half smoked cig butts and a bottle of cheap rotgrub for the Man of peace role.
Then give me a hardnosed bean counter with a passion for numbers and collecting novality pencil sharpners for the head of omni.
Round it off with a thin, weak willed, brow beaten 15 year old supermarket clerk with a bad case of ache , 3 inch thick glasses and no idea about women outside of his collection of porno mags as the mysterous male lead.

As for beign Radimans friend, its not the way Yazule is hinting as she keeps refering to him as Grandad? My personal guess is that she was maybe rescued by him as a baby or something.
