If AO went offline - Survivor Instruction Manual

Hello, if you are here then there is a chance that you believe the possibility of Anarchy Online going offline. That CAN happen, not likely in the near future, but then... look at all the damn airplanes dropping out of the sky and disappearing in the past year... $h1T happens.

So, here is your survivor instruction manual in case the unthinkable happens.

HOW TO SURVIVE THE LOSS OF ANARCHY ONLINE

1. Don't panic, stay calm and accept the end of an era. If you have AO friends, form a support group on facebook. Use youtube, twitter and pinterest and share old screenshots and video recordings to keep the good memories alive.
2. It is likely that an emulator will come out, like it happened when Star Wars Galaxies shut down. Ask around in the (former) AO community if there is one available or being worked on.
3. If there is no emulator available, try and encourage former players to try and build one.
4. In case an emulator does not seem to be a possibility (likely due to Funcom holding the legal rights for the Dreamworld engine and the original AO engine) then encourage the use of Atavism which is a MMO creator using the Unity engine.
5. If there is no chance to revive AO in some form, then close the door completely and move onto Star Citizen.
6. Keep on gaming.

Thanks for reading, this is just a short manual based on common sense, not meant to be a joke or satirical in any way. Personally I don't believe AO will shut down at least for another 5 years, if not later.

Even tho I tried to keep up with it over the years, I rarely heard any vet (or very experienced AO player) state that if AO went down, that CellAO would be a good option. Looks like the last update for it was June 2014.

CellAO never seemed to get past glorified dress-up. As far as I know, they never got combat or proper mob spawns to work and had barely even gotten actual zone borders working last I looked. Seemed like it was pretty much "Spawn some items in your inventory, look at how pretty you can make your character"

I have my own steps..

Step 1. Check forums for 18.7 patchnotes
Step 2. Wait few hours.
Step 3. Login and see the changes.
Step 4. Check forums for 18.7 complaints
Step 5. Realize AO is back online and in Anarchy....
Step 6. Girlfriend tells me I play to much AO anyway.
step 7. Not play awesome 18.7...

Well if it ever came down to it, I'd love to get stuck in with an AO Emu. I used to help code for Trinity Core WoW Emu so, it can't be any harder, right?

Isn't there quite a lot hidden stuff that makes emulating AO relatively complex? Like the infamous nerf-table, that even devs didn't know existed?

They started looking into the perk system 2-3 years or so ago, means said they were shocked by what was hiding in it.

AO's code is a lovecraftian horror the likes of which spawned the ideas behind TSW's stories, I'm sure of it. Maybe Macrosun was making dark pacts with elder gods in the basement all those years...

Just rename everything.

Rubi-ka = Ak-ibur
Anarchy Online = Yhcrana Online
Borealis = Silaerob
Neutrals = Not allowed in Yhcrana Online.
