Bugged Life Bars?

Am I the only who sees these? In the fights I've been in the opponent's health bar reports to be full no matter how much damage I do to them.

So I end up in these "all or nothing" encounters where I end up running from fights I probably could've won and fighting to the death in others where I had no chance to win; all because I get no feedback from the game.

I got a newb question also. Crit buffs. I fought a guy yesterday, a 'Crat with a bow, saw him crit 7 times in a row on every shot, 3 against a team member and 4 against me. 1500-ish dmg on every shot (scrolled up and read the damage report after I died). I have 840 Dodge, but I was on Full aggro (to fight mobs), does going full Def help? Is 7 crits in a row something I should expect on a normal basis?
