    Uwen's Story

((Ok, here it is, my life story, kind of. The link is to a 17 page short story concerning a battle in my hometown of Little Glenspaen on the planet New Inverness. Maybe some of you might realise that Inverness is a region in the Scottish Highlands and Glenspaen is a small town near Spaen Bridge, where, I believe, a Scot/English battle took place.

A little OOC info about Uwen and the Scottish Federation-
Sometimes, when he is drunk or angry, Uwen slips into his native Scottish accent. Most of the time he speaks a somewhat American accent with a hint of English/South African he learned from some "Upper class" Scottish Federation officials. In the story, most of the soldiers speak with Scottish accents. The regulars and basically anyone who's dialogue is spelled normally is speaking a mix of upper class English with a touch of South African and a large bit of Scottish, just not nearly as thick as the "lower classes" (militia soldiers and so forth). The Scottish Federation is a company like any other, just not nearly as powerful as the others though they provide a needed commodity (alcohol that can make even supposedly intoxication immune breeds on Rubi Ka drunk. They have a much more democratic system than OmniTek and as such are not nearly as wealthy. Colonies that are located near the capitol of a Scottish Federation planet are one of the safest, most enjoyable places around if you don't like war, but the borders are a different story. On some Scottish Federation planets there are quasi-mystical cult rebels, some there are anarchists rebels, some authoritarian rebels, some other-company-sponsored terrorists, you name it, they've got a problem with it. This is because they don't suppress things, or, at least, not nearly as much as other companies and as such more people are free to join rebellious movements. Ok, hope you like it . Its kind of long (the story), like I said, 17 pages, so you might not want to start it at work unless you're on break Enjoy!))

    Little Glenspaen

    Background

I was born into a very religious family from Little Glenspaen, New Inverness of the Scottish Federation (thats right, the same ones that make the popular whiskey we have here). Moved from there to RubiKa when I was relatively young. Me dad brought his knowledge of running a pub here and he got a job with Baboon's in charge of the drink section. I started my education with Scottish Fed schools and my dad saved enough money to hire a tutor from the Fed to teach me, as I was his favourite of the three sons (as well as the baby of family) and he couldn't afford more than one. Now, dunno if you all know this, but the Scottish Fed runs things differently than OmniTek. Scots have always had a bit of a revolutionary strain in 'em. The Scottish Fed gives it people much more freedom than OmniTek. Its no democracy, but they make it so it doesn't matter. People can have a say. People can speak out against 'em without being thrown in prison. Why we moved to RubiKa, I'll never know.

So, we are on RubiKa, working hard at what we do. Its nae an important job like InternOps or Reform, but we provided a service that most people enjoy. Once Rompa's opened, Baboons got less customers. Rompa's already had a full staff, so we couldn't move there. Money got tighter.. However, my dad wanted the best for his kids, so he did something he probably shouldn't have. He turned a blind eye to people selling stims in the back room. Then he started dealing them himself. He always told us if he ever caught us doing the same, he'd take a belt to us. My older brothers, being educated in an OmniReform school, didn't like this practise one bit. They would go off to more after school programs and not come home until late. One day, my dad stopped selling stims and banned them from his pub. My brothers got su****ious as the money was still coming in. They did some snooping and found out that my father had started selling guns and equipment... to clanners. When they found out, they were outraged. They left immediately and didn't return for two days. When they did return, there were two OmniPol officers with them. They took away my father. I never saw him again. I protested and my brothers tried to explain that my father was a traitor. When I refused to agree, they had OmniPol take me away as well. I spent three months in an OmniReform Reformatory. I was decided to be "incurable" and sent to the mines. On the way there, the patrol escorting me along with some others bound for the mines was ambushed by clanners. They took the equipment and any prisoners that wanted to go with them. I decided my "career" with OmniTek was over and left a scrawled note stating as much. I considered it my application termination.

I moved to Tir and lived rather happily, learning the adventurer profession. I got involved in politics early on. I started my own clan called The Rubi Ka Highlanders with my friends [NAMES EDITED OUT TO PROTECT THEM FROM RETRIBUTION FROM WITHIN THE COMPANY]. That went rather well. We tried to get involved in politics, but we never got particularly big or important. The experience was a great one. When the apartment was blown up in Omni-1 by the Dust Brigade, I was absolutely convinced OmniTek was behind it. There was no other explanation. The clans had everything to lose by it and nothing to gain. A bad reputation and a branding as terrorists were the most damaging things. OmniTek had everything to gain and nothing to lose, aside from the insignificant lives of children. They were made to look good and it made their propaganda look real. I was ridiculed by OmniTek employees and moderate clanners alike. "OmniTek isn't THAT evil!" Disgusted with my fellow clanners and the planet in general, I decided to take a long break. I gave control of the clan to my friends. I went back to New Inverness and resumed my former occupation. Perhaps one of my biggest mistakes. The Federation started an alliance with OmniTek. I, along with a couple others, were given licenses to operate and represnt Federation interest on RubiKa. This time, I was assured a job with Rompas.

Because of "Circumstances surrounding my last termination of employement" my pay was docked heavily. I got into politics once more and found many new faces and few old ones, which was refreshing to say the least. More and more involved in politics, I cared less and less for representing my beloved Federation within OmniTek. I terminated my application once after applying to Whisper's Edge.

From then, until now, most of the important events in my life many of you already know ((From Of Hawks and Doves)).

A rather important little secret I have forgotten to mention throughout this, is that I had and still have friends within OmniTek. My oldest and best friends are members of Mecenaries of Kai and former members of SIT, as well as one in Enforce. [NAMES EDITED OUT TO PROTECT THEM FROM RETRIBUTION WITHIN THE COMPANY] They were eventually convinced to work for the corporation and have left the ideals of the clans behind. [Yes, you guess it, names edited out blah blah blah] is a loyal employee and I have had many discussions with him, always coming to an impasse. He has, despite his loyalty to the company, a greater loyalty to his friends. He has often given me money and equipment, helping me back on my feet since my return to planet. He offered to help fund the removal of the Sentinels, but I told him it was a clan matter. [Edited out*] is not very intelligent and extremely loyal to the company. Doesn't like clanners and lost some respect for me since I became one, although he tries daily to convert me back, which is way way of caring. [edited out] is a very intelligent doctor and a good person, but never liked the life of the clans. She has also helped me in my first years back on planet. My loyalty to the clans will bring me to attack their organisation's holdings, but I cannot attack these people specifically, nor do I expect they would attack me, with the exception of [Edited out*] (whereby I would fight back).

Recently, I have been feeling more aggressive or, I hesitate to say, murderous, towards certain OmniTek employees. I do not know if it is a result of drinking Federation alcohol (which can intoxicate even RubiKan breeds who are supposed to be immune) or if it is a frustration from somewhere else.

And since Alamexis', whom I considered a friend, I have become protective of Emiliy (as some of you might have noticed) in a "big brother" sort of way. Perhaps my most gut wrenching moment in recent history is the moment in which I allowed myself to be angered by her teasings and agreed to meet her in he arena, where I killed her. I've tried to make up for, and she seems to have forgiven me. I suppose only time will tell.

Finally, as many of you know, a relationship has started between Lesentia and myself. I'm not exactly a ladies man and I get somewhat nervous when talking about things like relationships, so I don't know what else to say.

So, thats my life in short. There's details, but I don't want to take up too much of your time. Suffice to say, I have always been a clanner at heart and always will be, no matter where I am. If any of you would like to know details, ask me. I will answer all questions that do not compromise my friends within OmniTek. My life, as far as it concerns me, is open to all of you

    (( Thanks

Oh and I forgot to include a big thanks to Emily for hosting the story and reading my various drafts. And a disclaimer I forgot to include:

To the wonderful people of SPARTA, the bit about my militia regiment uses the same story you do on the SPARTA site (about King Leonidas and the battle at Thermopylae). I hope ya don't mind as it is purely coincedental and I had worked out that bit of the story long before I heard about SPARTA or read your site.

And if you do mind, well you're stuffy Omni scum anyway ))
