Thread: For the theatrically inclined

    Very interesting Ognom, might I inquire as to where you dug it up?

    Lyric, I might be able to "condense" the dialouge of the play both for the purposes of expediency and the evasion of evil curses should you be so inclined. Macbeth is *quite* a long play and while modifying any of the bard's works is considered blasphemy in some circles it has to be done in the interest of scripting. Send me an ingame /tell with your thoughts as well as with a list of actors (including their breeds) I'm open to acting in any part myself. Best of luck

    I think Shuldrich is probably on the right track. Its a long play, tough on the actors, tough on the audience.

    I'd suggest something even more radical, at least to start with.
    Rather that doing a full play, may for your first outing do a "selecting scenes from Shakespeare" kind of show. If you find that works, then maybe try something more challenging for your next show. Just a thought.

    I think a "Selection of scenes" would be good as well, seeing as how it is Shakespere we'll have a wide selection of scenes to choose from (And the award for understatement of the year goes to...) , and switiching it up may help keep the interest of the audience on the actors. On top of that we could choose stuff ranging from solliloquies to a few baisc dialogues. Solliloquies will be easier on the scripting and can be presented in their original format (for the most part) while an inter****ing of dialouges will help keep things fresh.

    Oh, here are some Shakesperian possibilities for scenes to look into. Feel free to add to the list

    Hamlet's solliloquy (To be or not to be)
    Saint Crispin's day speech (Henry V)

    um if the actors are to type their varios parts into chat i would think that it would be boring as u could quite easily seea similar thing by reading the script

    www.google.com search: macbeth script hehe

    Found alot of cool info on just a few sites.

    Oh, on another note there are issues with how long it lasts and so on, well to be honest I'd have to agree. Unless you made it a weekly thing and even then you can't be sure all the players show up to do the lines and emotes. That reminds me aswell, emotes are what makes it worth it besides the typical typed into chat script.

    Something shorter hmm, I'm not a big theatre buff but I did one once called philadelphia where dialogue took place in a small cafe and conversation insues, perhaps a 10-15 minute dialogue typed was rather humorous. It was called "The Philadelphia." or "Philadelphia" And revolved around this philly cheese steak sandwich and how bad it was to live under a grey sky in a dull city.

    Oh what I was also thinking perhaps if shakespeare is a bit too long to hold people attention would be monologues.

    I think monologues could work and they tend to get comedic and offer a good 5 minute or so attention span the oppurtunity to catch the whole thing and take it all in.

    gah n/m I don't even know theatre, whatever you do is cool by me if I'm in it or I get to watch I'll be happy

  7. #47
    i agree with u ognom.. the philly **** sounds good becoz it sounds funny, macbeth i think might just be a tad long and dry, maybe the best option would be to write ur own mad AO style script like the deacons stories of the smugglers

  8. #48
    Actually it can be a lot more than a long stream of text. You'd be surprised how much can be achieved with emotes, costume changes and even nanos.

    Personally I'd love to see the Hamlet soliloquy
    as performed by a leet.

    To be, or not to be leet: that is the question:
    Whether 'tis nobler in mind to suffer
    The slings and arrows of outrageous newbies,
    Or to take arms against a sea of troubles and pwns them all.
    To die: to sleep, to wake up at the reclaim terminal..."

    But I suppose a non-leet version would work too :-)

    New Options

    Ok. So what I'm hearing is that

    A: Macbeth is too long. I get that and this is fine

    B: Reading the script is boring. Savoy is right. The actions, Emotes and SFX will make this interesting. Not a problem as far as I'm concerned.

    C: The public, (you people) wants comedy . Not Macbeth. This is also fine.

    The Bottem Line: A new play/Idea is needed. Some ideas are, Scenes from Shakespere, The Philadelphia(which I have read and performed before), A comedy from Shakespere(Midsumers Night springs to mind) or something not listed above... yes this makes sense...

    I will try to make this into a pole for people to fill out. In the meantime, people who have asked to help, Come up with your favorite Shakesperian scene! Thanks!

    Personally, Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet are my two favorites.

    R&J would probably be easy to condense into a performable play. Hamlet...I'm not sure.

    Edit- Oh yeah...Midsummer Night's Dream is cool too.

    Shuldrich steps up to the podium

    Ahem...

    What's he that wishes so?
    My colleague Ross? No my fair colleague:
    If we are marke'd to die, we are enough
    to do our company loss; and if to live
    the fewer men the greater share of profits.
    God's will I pray thee, wish not one employee more
    Rather proclaim it Ross, through my host,
    that he who has no stomach to this fight,
    let him depart. His passport shall be made
    and credits for transport placed in his inventory:
    We would not visit reclaim in that man's company
    that fears his fellowship to rezz with us.

    Now this... I like! Ok, I'm vetoing my prior sugestions and replaceing them with this.

    All voulteers, please select a passage from your favorite play, (Shakespeare only please) and modify them to our world.

    Comedies, Tragadies, anything goes. If we can pull this off, then we progress with Macbeth! (or some other full leghth play) I would still like to do a withch scene so get in touch if you want to double double a little.

    Thanks!

    Ok, here goes...

    Belamorte: O TheDeacon, TheDeacon! wherefore art thou TheDeacon?
    Deny thy demon, and refuse thy porn; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my obedience and I'll no longer be a crappy pet.

    TheDeacon: Shall I hear more, or shall I scream like a maniac at this?

    Belamorte: 'Tis but thy profession that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though, not a Metaphysicist. What's Metaphysicist? it is nor hand nor TEH FOOTNESS!!, nor arm, nor face, nor any other part belonging to a man. Hehe..heh.. I said "part". Hehe

    TheDeacon: You also said "..or face". Get it? Or face? Orfice? Orifice? Heheh... Orifice... Heh

    Belamorte: Hehe.. heh.. huhehhehe...

    TheDeacon: Hehehehehe... hehe..

    Belamorte: heh..

    Hmm..

    Ahem...

    O! be some other name: What's in a name? That which we call a foot by any other name would smell as sweet; So TheDeacon would, were he not TheDeacon call'd, retain that lewd perversity which he owes without that title. TheDeacon, doff thy name; and for that name, which is no part of thee, Take all my.... FEET! MY FEET!!!! OMG TEH FOOTNESS!!!! TEH FOOTNESSS

    Belamorte and TheDeacon turn to the audience, take a bow and stroll away, probably to do some nasty stuff involving lots of lotion

    Bliqz assumes center stage...a figure in black...his arms ourstreched and hands aflame...

    O for a Muse of fire, that would ascend
    The brightest heaven of invention,
    A kingdom for a stage, princes to act
    And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!

    But pardon, and gentles all,
    The flat unraised spirits that have dared
    On this unworthy scaffold to bring forth
    So great an object: can this cockpit hold
    The vasty fields of Rubi-Ka?

    O, pardon! since a crooked figure may
    Attest in little place a million;
    And let us, ciphers to this great accompt,
    On your imaginary forces work.

    Piece out our imperfections with your thoughts;
    Into a thousand parts divide on man,
    And make imaginary puissance;
    For 'tis your thoughts that now must deck our kings,
    Carry them here and there; jumping o'er times,

    Turning the accomplishment of many years
    Into an hour-glass: for the which supply,
    Admit me Chorus to this history;
    Who prologue-like your humble patience pray,
    Gently to hear, kindly to judge, our play.

    ((Opologies to The Bard, I butchered the Chorus Prologe to Henry V, but I think any audience would do well to hear these words before any preformance))

    ((And further in Henry V))

    Standing before the gates of Athens is the OT-RK armies...The commander knows his troops are tired and exausted...close to breaking...He decides to gamble everything on a bluff...

    Commander of the OT-RK Forces:

    How yet resolves the governor of the town?
    This is the latest parle we will admit;
    Therefore to our best mercy give yourselves;
    Or like to men proud of destruction
    Defy us to our worst: for, as I am an Agent,
    A name that in my thoughts becomes me best,
    If I begin the battery once again,
    I will not leave the half-achieved Athens
    Till in her ashes she lie buried.
    The gates of mercy shall be all shut up,
    And the flesh'd soldier, rough and hard of heart,
    In liberty of bloody hand shall range
    With conscience wide as hell, mowing like grass
    Your fresh-fair virgins and your flowering infants.
    What is it then to me, if impious war,
    Array'd in flames like to the prince of fiends,
    Do, with his smirch'd complexion, all fell feats
    Enlink'd to waste and desolation?
    What is't to me, when you yourselves are cause,
    If your pure maidens fall into the hand
    Of hot and forcing violation?
    What rein can hold licentious wickedness
    When down the hill he holds his fierce career?
    We may as bootless spend our vain command
    Upon the enraged soldiers in their spoil
    As send precepts to the leviathan
    To come ashore. Therefore, you men of Athens,
    Take pity of your town and of your people,
    Whiles yet my soldiers are in my command;
    Whiles yet the cool and temperate wind of grace
    O'erblows the filthy and contagious clouds
    Of heady murder, spoil and villany.
    If not, why, in a moment look to see
    The blind and bloody soldier with foul hand
    Defile the locks of your shrill-shrieking daughters;
    Your fathers taken by the silver beards,
    And their most reverend heads dash'd to the walls,
    Your naked infants spitted upon pikes,
    Whiles the mad mothers with their howls confused
    Do break the clouds, as did the wives of dying
    At Herod's bloody-hunting slaughtermen.
    What say you? will you yield, and this avoid,
    Or, guilty in defence, be thus destroy'd?

    Govenor of Athens:

    Our expectation hath this day an end:
    The Sentinels, whom of succors we entreated,
    Returns us that their powers are yet not ready
    To raise so great a siege. Therefore, dread Agent,
    We yield our town and lives to thy soft mercy.
    Enter our gates; dispose of us and ours;
    For we no longer are defensible.
