How to find a GA4.... (Share your experience!!)

    heehee got your attention now....

okie, the main purpose of this post is to help everyone (including myself) find the elusive Grid Armor IV.... i hope everyone will share your experience in finding the GA4..... whether you have found it yourself, or whether u have friends who managed to find one....

now on with the serious stuff.... i need everyone to post the following :

    1. Have you (or your friend) found GA4 before?

    2. If yes, where did you (or your friend) find it? If it's in mission, state the mission QL, whether is it found on a normal mob, inside chest, or on the boss. Also state whether was it a team mission, and how many people was in the team when the mission was pulled. (I cannot emphasize the accuracy of the information for this part, if you do not know any information, then dont put it in.... need FACTS here

    3. If you have not found GA4, nor heard of your friends finding one, what were the rumours you have heard on GA4 hunting? (This part can be non-factual, i.e. hearsays are allowed here)

    4. Last part is regarding what YOU THINK are good conditions to find GA4.... (readers take this information WITH A PINCH OF SALT)

Finally, feel free to end off with other comments of your own....

Hope this post will help increase supply of GA4 to the market, thereby bring down the price of GA4.... and also help those who is hunting one, to hunt in conditions that might really drop GA4, instead of hunting in futile....

    okie.... post on!!

well.... i will start off first....

    1. No.

    2. -

    3. Heard that QL129 team missions pulled with a full team is the best way to hunt for the GA4 (boss normally end up being QL140, which is the QL of GA4 ID), anyone attest to this??

    4. Was thinking that around QL140 missions yield lotsa normal mobs that drops QL140 loot, but the boss will normally drop loot that is much higher in QL. As for QL129 missions, seems like most mobs drop loot that was way too low in QL, but the boss is very frequently QL140 exactly. Also, seems like a lot of GA3/4 are found from normal mobs and from chests, and not so much from boss.... but of course blitzing boss is faster than killing all the mibs in the mission.... dillemma....

That's my contribution! Post on guys!!

Haven't found GA IV, I have found GA III though. I'll just share what insights I have on the matter.

First off, GA discs are not special loot, that is to say they don't drop only off bosses or only in missions. I would concede they are special due to being rare.

GA discs are technically speaking a tradeskill item. Mobs that drop lot's of tradeskill items have a chance of dropping GA discs.

Some mobs drop discs more frequently than others, i.e. plants and bosses. Missions bosses and dynacamp bosses are IMO your best bet, though loot on dynacamp bosses is very erratic.

Mobs drop tradeskill componants in a level range around the level of the mob. It won't always be the exact level of the mob. I don't know the exact range, I do know it can be lower or higher than the mob though. I've seen level 80 bosses drop level 93 discs, but also seen them as low as 60. The GA III disc I have is QL 116, the misssion was QL 91 and the boss itself was level 95.

I don't know if this is always true, but the only tradeskill item bosses seem to drop is instruction discs, and mission bosses seem to almost always have at least one. Almost always that is, you will not find discs everytime, but it was rare I'd kill a boss that did not have a disc.

This is a rare disc, but this is probably due to the fact that virtually every nano in the game can drop in ID form, GA IV is one nano among many that could possibly be generated. I'm sure also the game is weighted against making the disc as well. So you will spend alot of time killing and looking before you find it. Before you despair, just keep in mind that there is one sure thing: If you never look at all, or quit before you find it, you will never find it.

    1. Have you (or your friend) found GA4 before?
    yep

    2. If yes, where did you (or your friend) find it?
Teammish, full team within a ql 141 mish, bossdrop

    4. Last part is regarding what YOU THINK are good conditions to find GA4.... (readers take this information WITH A PINCH OF SALT)
Only luck helps. There is no way to better conditions of finding one :/

Found GA4 in a lv149 team mission. Mission in Home was rolled from Newland...50% on all the sliders. 7% added ql with the fixer bonus. Team consisted of 3 members. Lv155? Agent boss mob dropped the id. Team level was 3 at the time we killed the boss. I dont think I left anything out.

    1. yes

    2. Blitzing Ql 109 team missions off the boss
Also had someone find a GA3 disc at the bothackers camp in PM so they really can drop just about anywhere...

hmmmm... interesting.... thanks for all the feedback!

UnholyWraith, for the QL109 mission, was GA4 found? or was it GA3?

Also my guildmate said something about team level affecting drop rates.... still a speculation... but worth a thought... Team level 3 for Greyland.... hmmm....

any fixers blitzing GA4 on seeing this and getting results?

Hey Beach.. I'm also in the market to try to find myself some GA3/4, so if you ever wanted to team to pull some missions I'd be game (either solo or as a duo would be good with me -- I can solo QL 129-140 missions pretty easily).

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but didn't figure it was so far off I'd upset anyone. Not to mention that we can add our findings to this study should we get a hit.

Okay - let's cut to the chase here. If you're considering GA, the first thing you need to do is determine whether or not you actually want to go that route.. You do NOT need grid armor, it is not a must, and it has both benefits and detriments. Regardless, I wouldn't worry too much about getting it until you are a bit higher level and can actually use it.. somewhere around level 55 if you don't want to EXCESSIVELY gimp yourself in the process.

Con's of using GA at low levels:
Serious ip investment. This will cause you to be unable to raise some of your skills as high as you normally would - as a GA user I have always been able to max the skills I want to max (all abilities minus psychic, body dev, SMG, burst, treatment, all three evades (duck is only needed high for pvp)). My nano skills were gimped a fair bit, hell, still are, as a result of raising MC to use GA. My RI was gimped for a while, not too big of a deal because I use a Sol Chironis, not an MCS. All my misc. skills like first aid, comp lit, run speed are heavily gimped.

Need for outside buffs - to get the full benefit of GA you're going to have to get masteries/infuses/mocham's every 6 hours until you can self-cast it. I wouldn't bother even buffing into it until you are within the OE limit (20%) because GA turning red on you, really, really sucks. If you can get it not red by casting expertises, go for it.

Low AC - can't wear anything else - GA is considered a social armor - this means, you can't wear much of anything with it - no armor, no shoulder pieces, no bracers.. you can wear your token board and two rings, and that's it. GA by itself has low AC's which means when you do get hit, you're going to get hit HARD. Maxxing evades is a must, imho, due to the fact you need to evade as much as possible to avoid getting smacked around with your low AC's.

Debuffs - trader/MP/NT players (and mobs!) are much, much more deadly to you as a fixer in GA - if you get drained, or hit with nano shutdown/dominate/etc, you're going to be in for a world of hurt as your GA turns red and often 0% effective. This means you are fighting NAKED when this happens. Ouch. Nukes, DoT's, damage shields, etc slice right through GA like a hot knife through butter. Keep that in mind.

6 hours Once you've summoned your GA it lasts six hours before you have to summon a new suit.. nothing quite like being in the middle of a mission, fighting 4 deep red enforcer mobs, to see yourself suddenly become naked! Hellllo, reclaim.. and time to go look for a friendly MP to give you mocham's so you can make a new suit.

    --
Pro's of wearing GA at low levels:
PvM I'm not sure about teaming, but I do know you'll easily be able to solo deep red mobs.. you'll scoff at them, in fact, as they miss you 95% or more. I was running 100% missions at level 55 in GA MKI, that tapered down to 75% missions after a bit. Level 111 now, in GA MKII, and soloing 75% team missions, boss & all, no problems.. can still tank numerous deep red mobs at a time.. traders are a bit of a problem, but other than that, it's very easy.

PvP - While you will be pathetically weak to certain professions as a result of wearing GA (MPs, NTs, and traders come to mind), you'll gain a serious advantage against some other professions - enforcers, soldiers, etc - those who just shoot at/whack you.

    ---

Now, having read that, you need to ask yourself a very serious question - Do you still want Grid Armor? If so, how bad do you want it? IF, and only if, the answer is REALLY REALLY BAD, then you have two choices.

1> Camp it. I think the easiest way to do this is by soloing a whole lot of QL 55-60 bosses for GA MKI. Remember you're going to have to do this all over again around level 90 when you outgrow GA MKI, and again when you outgrow MKII, and again when you outgrow MKIII... how long will this method take? Who knows? The drop is totally random. I have found 2 GA discs by camping it, and I've bought 4. Sometimes it is easier to earn the credits and just buy the darn thing. There are also a few outdoor hunting spots you can get it at, but these are often heavily camped, and again.. the drop is random - you may be there for days or weeks before you find it. I've found GA MKII on the 28th QL 90-93 boss I killed, but I've also killed 87 bosses in a row looking for GA MKIII with no luck. It will eventually drop for you, but it may be on the 1000th boss, you never know. Might also be on the first.

2> Buy it. This is a daunting task for a low level fixer - if you're on RK2, GA MKI runs around 30 million, GA MKII runs around 60 million, unsure about the other two. If you're on RK1, you can probably double those prices. Yes, raising that kind of money at a level when you can actually make full use of the GA is difficult. It is NOT impossible. It's boring. It's not much fun. It may take a full week or longer of nothing but money runs, nonstop, for 10 hours a day. But it can be done. Is it worth it? Only you can answer that question.

    ---

All that said, I looked into this before I made the decision and I decided to use GA. The main reason is because I much, much prefer to solo, and GA makes soloing infinitely easier. My personal method of getting GA works like this:

Level 1-45 - solo team mission bosses for cash, make as much money as possible, blitz for money, etc etc.
Starting at level 45 - begin soloing QL 55-60 team missions. Cut pretty much straight to the boss, but stop to loot and get chests on the way. Continue until either 1> GA drops, or 2> you have enough money to buy it.
Starting when GA MKI is equipped (level 55 for me) - start soloing QL 80-93 bosses. Continue until either 1> GA drops, or 2> you have enough money to buy it.
Starting when GA MKII is equipped (level 91 for me) - start soloing QL 105-116 bosses. Continue until either 1> GA drops, or 2> you have enough money to buy it.
Starting when GA MKIII is equipped (not yet) - start soloing QL 125-140 bosses. Continue until 1> GA drops, or 2> You have enough money to buy it.

If the bosses turn grey on you in the process, it's time to either skip to looking for the next version of GA, or else just do a ton of blitzing for cash and buy. I flat out bought my GA MKI. GA MKII, I've found twice, the second time I found it I kept it for myself and that was using the above method.. took 28 bosses to get it, and by the time I had gotten that far, I'd already earned close to 50 million credits. I was level 85 when I found it (gained 30 levels in the process). I decided to skip over GA MKIII because the bosses were getting yellow and green on me, and I'm looking for MKIV now. In the process of looking for MKIII/MKIV, I have gained 26 levels, and earned around 120 million credits so far. By the time my MKIV bosses turn grey, I should be able to come up with 500+ mil and just buy it if I have not found it by then.

    --

Side note: Yes, all the time I spend playing revolves around finding bigger, better GA. You can call that lame all you want, but I'm having fun. Are you?

I looted mine of a dead NT at a tower battle. . . uh . . ah . . sorry the res shock has not worn off yet and I am hallucinating a little.

I found my GA2 at the claw camp. I am also currently looking, so Ghir or Beach if you want someone to team with I can also solo 129 - 140 bosses. Just shoot me a tell.

First, to Fenris - I dont think trying to collect more modern information on how to hunt GA4 and exploring recent theories is inappropriate. That post is quite old and tho the GA drops havent really changed, a lot more people have found it and there's more information to be had. Plus it doesnt address some specific issues like QL of the boss (129mish yields a 140 boss) etc.

    --
I havent found GA4, but I did find GA3. It was a QL126 mission and was found on the 5th mob, which was very green to my 141 doc at the time, I'd say the mob was probably QL 110-115 Seasoned Huntsman. The mob dropped three IDs one of which was GA3.

As my sig currently says, I'ved killed 111 bosses in the approximate level range so far looking for GA4 with nothing. I really need to get more people in the team when I pull the missions...

I think I can safely say that the having many backpacks of IDs doesnt help anything. I had 6 backpacks of IDs with many, many duplicates. It did not appear to effect droprate of IDs or of specific IDs at all.

    --
What I would really be interested in hearing is how many found it .. "at the beginning" of a mission or within the first 5 minutes or so of a hunt? As I said mine was looted at the beginning of a mission. Ive heard a number of people say they found their GA within the first few minutes at the claw camps.

I've started to put more stock in the theory that there is a non-random component to the drops lately (or rather, that the probability isnt uniform all the time), ever since I recently tried to re-do the alvin quest on my Doc. For the first part, I found 6 of the 8 pieces within about an hour of killing. I kept on killing bots for about an hour (at a quite rapid pace, I might add) afterwards without so much as a single duplicate piece dropping, until I gave up in frustration. The next morning I logged on and the first bot I killed was a duplicate, and I found the remaining two pieces within 5 minutes.

If there is some truth to this, then its conceivable that spending hours at a camp in one sitting or killing twenty bosses in a sitting does not necessarily give you a very high chance of finding GA. It could be why so many people get frustrated. It would also mean that there's more truth than ever to "wait for GA to come to you, don't hunt for GA". which would upset people like me considerably ^_~. Afterall, I wasn't looking for GA when I found mine...

Other than taking missions that include mobs within a 20 level range of the QL of the type of GA disc you want and hunting outdoor mobs that traditionally drop tradeskill items, THERE IS NO SPECIAL WAY TO INCREASE ODDS OF FINDING GA. Period. Amen.

Hmm? I was actually trying to be helpful! I have considered starting this "End All" HOWTO thread before but was usually too angry at the time to say anything constructive.

In the end it is that you kill things of a close ql to the disk you want to drop, that drop disks. The higher the number of bodies, the higher the number of disks, the closer you are to finding what you are looking for. At least that is true if there is a fixed loot table in which items are depleted (like a gumball machine) and refreshed after a period of time. If the loot table has an infinite quantity of each item that can be dropped and what item drops is merely a percentage then you stand no greater chance of obtaining anything on your 500th kill than you did on your first (like a slot machine). If the loot table works like a gumball machine then the number of items you take out before the refresh will have a direct bearing on the chances of getting it. Conversely after finding it the chances of finding it again before a refresh are much smaller to non existant.

I am not sure how the loot tables function so I can't say that any method is more sure than any other...but still using the casino allegory, if you never go into the casino you can never spin the wheel or get the jackpot.

Fenris - Ah, there has been so much 'Use the search feature!' to any new thread about GA that I interpreted your post as that. While its annoying to have so many redundant GA threads I feel that there are still unanswered questions about how the drops work and if we could get enough data we could figure some of it out. So I dont think this thread is redundant and unncessarily like a lot of other GA threads. Sorry if I interpreted your post as "Here's everything you need to know now shut up!" post ^_^

Althought it would be a lot easier if FC would just tell us, I know they wont do that. ;p

Oh, I wanna know about Perception too. I dont have any characters with very high perception. Any truth to that rumor?

No truth to it at all. I had damn near no perception when I found GA.

If there were any sure way to get GA4 it wouldnt cost 700mil+

Your either lucky or your not.

That being said, the best way to increase your chances for it would be to get Team level 5 and pull a "130ish" Team mission with 6 people in the team.

Fact: you get more loot from boss with a full team.

Rumor: Team level increases your chance at rare loot.

wow.... i think we have quite some facts and rumors gathered in here for GA4....

think this can form the basis for which mission blitzing can be done....

say, how is team level raised? as in, is it a fixed time before it raises? does number of mobs killed makes it go higher faster?

Friend found mine while doing a ql150 solo mission, not a team mission.

    1. no not yet.

roll ql 136 team missions with a team og 6 perons in team. that should do it.
BUT if you are fixer you cannot roll this ql since you get added richness to loot. either you deduct your richnes add and calculate the ql or just get another person who can rol qll 136 missions to roll for you.

also a cyborg camp in milky way have the right ql mobs to drop GA IV.

Well, that repost of Karanya's method just made me rethink GA. If I find it, great, but I'm done going out of my way to look for it. If she enjoys spending all of her time searching for and finding it, fine, more power to her. But, for me, there's too many other things I'd rather be doing in AO than spending all of my time searching for armor.

GA is great and I'll continue to use the GA 1 that I have until it becomes impractical, but no more driving myself crazy looking for the next one. Besides, I imagine that I will look really good in CDS.

So, there's my method - get lucky.

FWIW, I found my GA 1 disk on a Shade dynacamp boss. He was around level 60-65.
