Election in the Council of Truth: Council Speaker

Once again, the representatives of the Clans members of the Council of Truth are called to vote to select who will be their next Council Speaker. The results of the vote will be announced at the June 25th session.

The selection of the Council Speaker is made by vote. Each Supporter Clan has one vote. Note the term "Supporter Clan" - prior to vote on any issue, a Clan must have declared affiliation with one of the Legacy Clans. The candidates for the position of Council Speakers are the leaders of the Legacy Clans. Upon stepping up, the Council Speaker will remain in position for six months, though circumstances may occasionally cause this appointment to be extended (something we try to avoid).

The position of Council Speaker is not one solely of prestige, but of duties and responsibilities as well. The Council Speaker carries out the voice of the Council of Truth on the public scene; thusly, the Speaker attends the sessions of the Council of Truth. The Speaker chosen by the Supporter Clans is usually a good indicator of the orientation the Council is willing to take, even though at times it may seem contradictory with the affiliation of the Supporter Clans. As such, the Council Speaker is a symbol of the stance of the Council of Truth and is seen as such by the main faction leaders. The Council Speaker also has the power to endorse or not the appointment of a clerk in the Council.

The outgoing Council Speaker is Commander Silverstone, who we thank for accepting this position for the first time since the foundation of the Council of Truth. His appointment was a historical moment, being coupled with a majority of Supporters Clans. Rarely have the Clans been so close to unanimity in their political orientation.
