Its not lack of DirectX 9 support either, its more that it might make the game slower and less playable compared to now.
Or even laptops with integrated graphics, whilst functional and supporting DX9, I think it would perform worse than now, hence why Id like to think that it would still be a choice, like the EVE Online premium graphics/engine.
As people have pointed out many times, part of AOs appeal is that it runs on a much wider range of hardware than any of the more recent MMOs, and assuming that its just an engine change, I dont see why it shouldnt continue to, provided there is a choice.
