I think a good way to fix engineers is to give them a lot of buffs to prevent damage. We have the offensive covered with insane war machines and slayers, we just get nailed too quickly.
A nano that transfers damage that an engineer takes to his/her bot would help. Not 100% of the damage of course.
Pathing also needs to be fixed, an engi can easily get isolated from his bot. No bot= No alive engineer on the field.. (Unless you're uber twinked and lvl 200. Then you're still in trouble, but not necessarily dead. :D )
