I for one am glad that we have got some answers. Basically all my requests were fulfilled.
Asked rough estimate, got 24 hours.
Asked answers why this has happened, got server instability as a reason.
Even client message was changed from online to offline to prevent further confusion.
Only thing I still don't know is if we are getting this tomorrow but if estimated downtime is 24 hours then I believe they are using something better than duck tape. So, currently I'm quite pleased with situation.
How can a few extended downtime's make you want to unsub you either like the game or you don't, problems are to be expected when transferring two servers on a 12 year old game.
What is wrong with you all? The good news is they are working on it!!! They could cpmpletely ignore the situation and deal with people getting stuck or anything else, on a case by case thing!! They choose to do the right thing and make sure we all have the best experience we can have. BTW, news flash!!! We are all imperfect we make mistakes and mistakes will come with people suffering. Where you need to look at is if they are willing to address the issue and that is what FC has done!!!
I spent 8+ years away from this game and I wish I hadn't because there is NO I repeat NO replacement for what FC provides for a game experience. I tried a crap load of different and old games yet here I am. I am sure I am not the only one who has this story.
If you treat the Devs like crap, what do you think will happen? I suggest that what will happen is
1:) Say, Screw this game? I will not work at all on it?
2:) Rush things and make horrible mistakes like what we have now?
Go ahead get mad and rush fixes and reap what you sow!
To Funcom, Thank you and keep up the great work. You deserve better from your hardcore and new players, but these people know nothing about patience, forgive them and do your best to continue doing what your are doing.
For those that will flame my post I don't care. You should look into your own mind and heart and figure out if this impatience you show here is manifested in your own private life. When you do that then look at why things don't go the way you would like them to because you are rushing to much. Remember Funcom's job is to give you a get away and if you're pressuring them they will make mistakes, example... look what happens when you get preasured?
Maybe they knew number of people on both servers and planned for that- but with more population to game with, people who hadn't logged on for months came back to play?
That's a good things I guess- but if that IS what happened, I hope the solution now isn't to re-split the server! :D
Yes it would! Simulation NEVER equals reality.
I could shout and train on my real world weapon yet when I get into the real world and the situation arises, how accurate would I be? How do I compusate for this complete strangers will to live and kill? He will most likely not dive or run where I trained.
I could also use something like voting. If your don't vote at all, how many other poeple didn't vote that was like minded as you? If those people voted would the vote tirn out different?
Server up!
Ummm. No.
It is NEVER (ever ever ever) the responsibility of the customer to test and validate applications in a manner to go to a LIVE server. That testing occurs pre-alpha/beta release, the post beta to clear up errors - and may go back for another round depending on issues found/resolved. Companies all have plans to validate and test software changes/upgrades. I am assuming FC has those as well.
Now, if FC had asked the entire game population to play on TESTLIVE for a week so that would help them to mimic closer to game conditions (stress the system) - maybe we would have (but I would expect something for my time spent, be it points, time, etc).
Simulation never equals reality? Do you believe AO to be reality? Your analogy attempts just plain baffle me.
my day when I resub will be the day that everything is fixed by funcom and they stop lying about certain things
Whilst the server has suffered a form of hamster-induced paralysis, it has given me quite an entertaining read via this thread.
So, how many people actually quit with their mouths frothing and foaming with rage of the quit variety? =)
I agree.
I believe this is a hardware issue they need to look into.
That's a relief.
My kitteh is happy now too.
@ Anarrina: I think you are doing a wonderful job keeping the forums in-topic.
Keep up the good work, kiddo.
Yeah, I'm sure some might think it's funny at the time when people post links to web sites that have humorous content, but lets be realistic here and keep it in line with the topic shall we?
The ARKs that moderate the forums are volunteers. That's why they don't get paid for their services.
Let's show some respect for them and the hard work they do here.
Maybe they don't know what the problem is yet. Have you thought of that?
And a free month does NOT equal 24 hours of down time.
Finally! Somebody with a little sense.
Leave them alone so they can fix the problem.
What is so difficult with that?
Actually that's not a bad idea. I'm sure that would make a LOT of people happy.
But if you read the EULA I'm sure you will find in there something to the effect of: LMFAO!! You want what?!?
I could not have said it better than that, sir.
I have never had a paid account.
Some people are not as fortunate as others and don't have the luxury of having a credit card or have living Parents so they can ask Mommy or Daddy to pay for their subscription.
I consider myself lucky just to have cable internet and the ability to play this fantastic game even if it is on a limited basis.
Thank you, FunCom! \o/
