18.1 - Serious Issue and Rollback

Ok, there isn't a way to sugar coat this one unfortunately.

By and large, everything went well on the surface with the update today, the vast majority of the changes have been enjoyed and the new content has worked well for most.

However, and here is the serious but, a rare but serious issue has been discovered causing a small number of characters to lose their perks and research levels. It is never acceptable for us to risk players losing data on their characters. This is pretty much the most serious type of issue we can encounter, regardless of the number of players affected, it is important we safeguard people's hard earned progression wherever possible.

This data corruption has also resulted in server instability as the code tries to cope with the resultant erroneous data. This is causing server crashes, and that affects more players. As time progresses this issue will begin to affect more and more characters..because of this the live servers will be coming down shortly to give us a chance to isolate the issues, test fixes and apply a data rollback to 11am this morning to ensure that players do not have their characters damaged in the long term.

Those that have spent their paid points on the new apartments will not loose anything in this process and the points will be returned regardless of whether the transaction occured after 11am this morning or before.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue and hope to restore the live environment as soon as possible.

Again, this is certainly something none of us like to have happen, but we wouldn't take this course of action unless it was absolutely neccessary for the safety of all your characters. Thank you for your understanding.

So this is a *character* rollback alone, right... not a patch rollback, so we won't have to reinstall AO...

Well, to be honest, i just twinked my Cloak of the Reanimated Illusionist on my newly dinged TL6 NT. :( Additionally, i managed to patch AO on my iMac running under Crossfire without any problem (i didnt get an resource database conversion, tho=

Anyway, i wholeheartedly understand the rollback because data integrity cant be sacrified.

Keep up the good work, no matter what others say :) GL for the next hours.

Yep, thats what he said. Servers are rolled back to what was before they went down.

DAMMIT I just finished stuffing Xan symbs back in after a mapnav reset :mad: WTB gm re-equiping my junk plx :p

I'm sad to see people bid points on tarasque loot, than later find out they no longer have thier dchest, rbp, EoT, etc


Anyway thanks alot for the rollback, i will lose my mk6 moongose i farmed... and i'm sure alot of players will be pissed of because off this rollback if they recently found/farmed/traded/bought city's/etc

i belive that if this emergency patch will resolve the issues, let it happen, in fact i encourage it to happen, so they finaly fix the stuff!

As I've been reading the forums today at work and seeing what has unfolded over the course of the day, I knew it would inevitably come to this. Thank you for doing what is necessary.

Basicly anything anyone has done today has been of a waste of time...

those who got new loot... it will be gone...

those who been working on equiping symbs... they arnt equiped :P

You should tell your GMs that. I lost 10,000,00 cr when a zone crashed and my character was rolled back and I was told by the GMs there was nothing they would do for me. Doesn't sound like they cared about people's hard earned progression in that case. *shrug*

Sounds to me like it's time to re-structure test server and use it for what it's supposed to be instead of party central.
