In the land of the blind...
The soft breeze blew through the darkened shoulder length hair of the young Solitus. Scents of smoke and the electric hum of the city clung to his senses. The twin suns crept slowly down the horizon line, making way for the ominous pale moon that slowly ascended to power, basking the Lush Fields in a twilight glow.
The cool green grass bent and swayed in an intangible dance, celebrating the victories and mourning the bloodshed that has plagued the land for so long now. A small mound of dirt elevated slightly amonst the tree line, nesting beneath the rasied roots of battered tree. The scars of battle still adorned its skin, black pitched dents and bullet grazings dug deep in its flesh. I hollowed home of several Reets now sat open, darkness filled the wound giving the tree an espression of torment. In these times, not many would hear its scream. Only those that needed and depended on the tree, could avenge its pain.
The small mound stirred slightly, dirt slid down the side revealing a small portion of an Omni-Pol insignia. The form of the agent within the camoflauged Forest Armor was indistinguishable, only the long dark hair swayed in the shadow. The locks flowed with free will, touching the bark of the beaten tree, caressing them as a mother would a child, offering assurance that all would be fine.
In the depths of the growing night, a single silver-green light dully shown from withing the earthen cave, now being drowned out by the trees shadow, cloaking it in the absence of light. Never blinking, never moving, the cloaked eye watched, scanning a tiny object approaching from the city gates. A near inaudible whir sounded as nanobots forced a round from the Yamatuchy X-3 Rifle's clip through the breach and into the barrel.
The Clan patrol officer strolled slowly on the horizon line, his Night Vision HUD fed the landscaoe through his small mirrored receptacle, hooking into a small port behind his left ear. The man stood almost six feet tall, several fiber-like wires ran from several objects on his chest, hand, and head. Implant connections ran through his highly muscled frame. Short cropped blonde hair and fiery green eyes made his presence alone seem fierce. A large Novaflow Assualt rifle rested easy in his hands. As he scanned the border of the fenceline to the forest, his wavering stopped and his nose lifted into the air, a unfimiliar scent rose in the air.
A whisp of a rustic smell mixed with an almost garlic-like one. Gun oil shares the same scent, the rustic blood smell was often produced by overworked nanobots. He was being targeted. The large man moved with an almost poetic grace, rolling slightly back on his shoulders and falling to the ground to produce a smaller target, a small rock covered his view.
The Novaflow burst to life, humming as the capacitors filled to maximum power. The soldier rose and extended his neck to peer around the rock. A small splatter of blood spat again the rock and his vision interupted. Glancing back, he noted a small glow below a derelict tree root. How had that shot come from behind him? his hand crept to his face, feeling out a large gash through the side of his face exposoing some plating a some fiberoptics that lead through to his viusal feed. He was blinded now. Remembering the Agent he had caught the day before. How he was "punished" for charges of spying on clan activity, and how he had escaped that same day, loosing an eye in the process from shrapnel of an explosion near the tree line as he jumped the fence to freedom.
The guard began breathing heavily, only the last glance of the glow in tree gave him a bearing of where the enemy now was. The man began waiving the Nova around threatening to pull the trigger at any sign of his rival. It was then he felt it, a cool pressure on the back of his head. His breathing stopped. As he began to turn he heard a whisper, "Eye for an eye."
A silenced whisp echoed through his head, and he felt his body falling. He seemed to fall forever, thoughts rushed through his head, he then remebered the old saying from a story his grandfather used to read him.
