A day with April

Her eyes opened slowly taking in the purple of the bedsheet, warmth, softness, April woke up slowly in the bright daylight of her bedroom. She spread an arm across the silk, stretching softly over the place where her fiancée was when she fell asleep. She raised her head in a reflex, a shiver rolling down her back, then realized the bedsheet was pulled up to her neck, carefully tucked. Her head fell back against the pillow, reassured, smiling faintly as she whispered a word... « Meta »

April felt her heart beating, blood rushing through her veins as she rushed through the corridors of the little plant. She could hear the shouts, the sliding of doors, gunshots too, getting near. They were many behind the door of the dark little storeroom, all those guys who had looked at her swift blue silhouette running past them, gasping, jumping, throwing insults. April ignored the guards, the security canons, the bullets flying past her and through her immaterial half-grided form, focused on her goal, to slide a datadisk into a terminal… then get the hell out of here.
« 6 seconds to safety… 6 seconds to safety… ». Her nano-program was spreading through her NCU, synchronizing her body particles, preparing to phase them to another reality. She heard more than she saw the message sent to her com, soft music advising that her mission was accomplished. The door crashed open, massive bodies stumbling into the room, looking at the blueish nanocloud vanishing into the air, with nothing left but anger and frustration.

She sat in the corner of the couch, across from the bar, the very place where she admired her Lord, so many times, long ago. Months had passed before she dared sit in His place. Not that she ever wanted to replace Him, as she would never compare. But, she felt after a while that someone had to be there to keep His memory alive.
Her gaze met Meta’s, and she realized the girl had just finished her greetings ritual. April felt ashamed instantly at the idea that she was not attentive to her fiancée’s demonstration. Meta didnt let any hurt appear, two black pearls were looking straight ahead and she stood perfectly still in her usual, simple, black coat. April pulled the hood off Meta’s head, freeing her long white ponytails, then showed her the place next to her’s, where she sat quietly.
That was the moment April preferred. She started to unbutton Meta’s coat slowly, smiling faintly, feeling each button slide on the fabric, revealling more and more of the outfit underneath. If meta was good, she would have cancelled any buffs, would wear different clothes than the day before, sexy ones. She would stand still, patient, given. And most of all, she would feel her heart beat harder in her chest, thrilled to be in April’s presence.

Meta and April danced together slowly, teasing each other in their usual way. The Reets Retreat was crowded but it changed nothing to them, it had become so easy to forget all others. They brushed their hands on their bodies sensually for each other, winking, kissing softly at times, both smiling, knowing well where that dance would lead them.
Meta wrapped a leg around April’s, sliding it up slowly, clinging to her, in her usual way. She knew it was a turn on that had led them to extremes before. Making love in the open, with witnesses even sometimes.
It was time. April stopped her dance, launched the routines to start the grid nano. Meta had little time. She said a quick ‘goodnight’ to the crowd around her, then wrapped her little arms tighter around April and kissed her neck gently.
« We are going home. » April was in the grid, already heading to the Borealis exit.

April watched the small body of Meta in her arms. She looked like a child so much in those moments, cuddling, falling asleep fast, exhausted, her heartbeat not yet calmed down. A soft smile appeared on her lips, she would sleep deeply.
April whispered a bit of their song, so softly that she could barely hear the words herself.
« So sorry your world is tumbling down
I will watch you through these nights
Rest your head and go to sleep
Because my child, this not our farewell. »
She was relaxed, thinking of the day just passed... one of many. She thought about her relation with Meta, it was very complex, and filled many roles. Perhaps each of them filled all the roles that the other needed. Sleep took her before she could think about it more. There would be other days …
